Barely days after president Uhuru Kenyatta convened an infrastructural conference to seek a solution to crisis at the port of Mombasa, the situation at the port has worsened with worth billions of shillings destined for neighbouring land locked states of Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda, DRC Congo stuck at the harbour. Delays in clearance has resulted in congestion with more than 1,000 trucks stranded for three days now.
KRA suspends 14 companies over clearance of 104 containers
14 companies alleged to have been involved in the ferrying of containers out of the port of Mombasa illegally as revealed by Kenya Revenue Authority on Wednesday have been suspended.
Kenya Ports Authority managing director Catherine Muturi, released the list of the suspended freight companies this morning which included Siginon freight, a company associated with a prominent Kenyan family which was later removed from the list.
