Twenty people died on Friday after a matatu collided with a trailer between Taru and Samburu area along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway in Kwale County.

Confirming the accident, Kwale County Police Commander Josephat Kinyua said the driver of the matatu was trying to overtake when the vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming trailer.

The bodies of the deceased have been moved to Kinango Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
