Kenya Airways moved about 28,000 passengers on the new Nairobi-New York route in a period of two months, Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Patrick Njoroge says.
Njoroge says Kenya Airways flew the passengers in the period between October 28th (when the new route was launched) and December 31st, 2018.
Njoroge further disclosed that KQ is targeting to move 99,000 passengers before the end of this year.
He says the nonstop flights have led to growth in the number of tourists and more investors are showing interest in setting shop in Kenya.
In December 2018, Kenya Airways announced it would reduce the number of flights on the route to five per week from January 2019, citing low demand during the winter season.
Last week, the airline announced a 30 percent discount on tickets for passengers flying Economy Class as it celebrates its 42nd birthday.
KQ said the promotion would apply to travelers who book and pay for tickets before February 5th, 2019, and travel by December 10th, 2019.
"The fare offer is valid on selected destination across its network," the airline said in a statement.
Under the offer, customers can also purchase a Business Class ticket and get the second one free.

Yuko wapi yule akili timamu??
Where is the source of information?
If we do some simple math
2wks daily flight 250 PAX x2 x 7 = 14000
6wks 5 flights a wk 250 Pax x2 x 6= 15000
Total = 29000
Here we are assuming a load factor of 100%
Now go back and get the load factor for that NBO-NY route and its not above 40%.
The CBK gvr may have been counting the number of seats flown back and fourth but not the passangers.
The best info should be from KQ not CBK..Let wait and see their half year results😂😂😂

You are doing an average but as we know, day to day can vary even month to month, thats why on the other thread I said we should wait for atleast 1 year to fully analyze and make an informed decision whether that route is performing or not...
Lakini watu kama nyinyi wakiskia KQ imebeba abiri wachache kwa siku moja tayari mnasherehekea imekufa.... watch the pride of Africa rise from the ashes!!!

Tafuta kamba ujinyonge

KQ boss is dead atleast financially, not only is it a burden to treasury but also it wants to take down Kenya Airports Authority by acquring and infecting the healthy parastatal with its toxic loans and corruption.
Whethere KQ dies or not is None of my business, I sold my shares longtime ago..
But am intrested to see how JPM revives ATCL, its ownership and business model is unique, the odds are truely stacked up aganist it..I love backing the under dog

nov-dec-jan is 12 weeks, where did you leave 4 weeks in your calculation?

KQ is making an operation profit, its not dying. The underlying business is making money. I foresee slightly better results this year as management now is not looters like before.
KQ taking over JKIA can be a good thing, frees it from political interference and govt worker slow performance. Ethiopian airways is planning to build a bigger airport, at a lower elevation like JKIA and it will handle 88mill passenger. Are we going to leave status quo of letting confused people in ministry of transport and treasury decide what is best for JKIA or leave the industry experts in KQ to do it? Ethiopia and emirate are doing it and are very successful, why not we?

I support that, let KQ takeover KJIA.

I left jan 2019 becoz the statement said oct 28 to dec 31 2018. Learn to read carefuly.
Kenya Airports Authority has no management or financial problems. They dont need any help from an incompetent loss making airline

Rwanda has come very far in such a short time, they too are underdogs in their own right ! There is also air Mauritius doing well lately.... But no, as always you are just going to ignore the rest of the world and only be interested in what JPM is doing whether he has succeeded or not, in your heart he has already won and collected all the awards!
