President Jakaya Kikwete yesterday awarded medals to 28 public servants for their long and outstanding service to the nation.

President Kikwete issued the awards yesterday at an investiture ceremony held at the multi-functional hall of the State House in Dar es Salaam.
Mbeya Regional Commissioner (RC) Abbas Kandoro, Singida RC Parseko Kone, Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the UN Ambassador Tuvako Manongi were awarded the Order of United Republic (first class).
This medal is awarded to faithful and dedicated citizens who have earned the nation praise and distinction in the field of politics, economy, defence, security and social affairs.
The ‘Long Service and Ethical Conduct' Medal (First Class) was awarded to Mr Kipenka Mussa (Appeal Court Judge), Mr Florens Turuka (Permanent Secretary in the PM Office), Mr Mbarak Abdulwakil (Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs), Sophia Kaduma (Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Cooperatives) and Mr Hab Mkwizu (Deputy Permament Secretary – Public Service).
Others are Ambassador Rajab Gamaha (Tanzania Ambassador to Burundi), Mr Peniel Lyimo (Deputy Chief Executive, Presidential Delivery Bureau), Prof Idris Kikula (Vice- Chancellor, University of Dodoma) and Mr Eliakim Martin Mrema (Director, Hansard Department of the National Assembly).
This medal is awarded to active members of the Public Service of the United Republic above the level of directors who have completed not less than 20 years of continuous outstanding service and ethical conduct.
The ‘Long Service and Ethical Conduct' medal (Second Class) went to Mr Emmanuel Funto, Ms Agatha Swai, Ms Scolastica Mwibale, Ms Mariam Sauri, Mr Wilberforce Kikwasi, Ms Maria Buchard and Ms Merina Ngoleka.
Others were Ms Rosalia Massay, Mr Kapalala Saganda, Mr Moses Swai, Ms Gertrude Kulindwa, Mr Didas Issuja, Ms Asumpta Mbawala and Mr Katembo Msikilwa.
This category of medal is awarded to active members of the Public Service below the level of Director who have completed not less than 20years of continuous outstanding service and ethical conduct.
Corporal Liberatus Tibaitirwa Ndyetabula received the medal for gallantry given to members of the defence forces and other persons for acts of gallantry.
He received the award for his gallantry in averting a possible robbery by three gun-totting bandits. After receiving the medal, he appealed to the youth to embrace patriotism and defend the public and the nation in general whenever there are such incidents.
Speaking to journalists after the awards, Ambassador Mulamula expressed her happiness and appreciation for the recognition of her hard work.
She urged women to work hard without complaining; stressing that there is no shortcut in life. Mr Kandoro expressed gratitude to the president for recognising his contribution to the development of the nation.
