Arusha. Three Tanzanian Universities which participated in the African Competition on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) organised by International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), have failed to make it to the final round.

Instead, the Tanzanian undergraduate scholars were thrown out in preliminary round of the Moot Court Competition on IHL in which eight African countries participated. ICRC has been organising the event for 14 years in Arusha.

The universities representing Tanzania were Ruaha Catholic University from Iringa, University of Iringa and University of Zanzibar.

In the final round of the competition held last weekend at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) in Arusha, Strathmore University from Kenya emerged the overall winner followed by Christian University of Uganda, while Kundayi Pasi from University of Zimbabwe clinched the best overall speaker award.

The final round was presided over President of the ICTR Judge Vagn Joensen, Judge of the High Court of Tanzania Stella Mugasha, Judge of the East African Court of Justice, Dr Fanstin Ntezilyayo, and John Joseph Wamwara and Mutsa Mangezi from ICRC.

Judge Joensen, who presented trophies and shields to the winners, hailed the competition as an awareness raising tool among law students and that it helped to shape the mindset of future leaders as far as humanitarian laws and ideals are concerned.

Nilishangaa sana juzi kupitia CITIZEN TV nilipoona wanafunzi wa secondary a.k.a shule za upili wakiwa na moot court kuhusu kezi zinazowahusu viongozi wa nchi katika mahakama ya ICC.
