More than 500 Chinese manufacturers are expected in Nairobi mid next month to scout for deals with Kenyan firms in the fourth annual China Trade Week.
The Chinese companies will be looking to make direct trading links with local enterprises interested in facilitating trade between the two countries. The fair will focus on matching small and medium-sized firms from both countries.
The 2018 event has recorded a 25 per cent increase in subscriptions by Chinese companies from previous years. It will be held in two phases, from June 13 to 15 and then from June 18 to 20. Phase one will include industries such as building material and textiles, whereas phase 2 will include the agricultural and automobile sectors among others.
Last year, 11,000 people attended the exhibition, down from 16,500 when it opened in 2015.
Middle East International Exhibition (MIE) Group said this could be because many businesses had made the necessary connections from previous trading exhibitions.
Fifteen Chinese companies have opened shop in Kenya and five have invested in Kenya’s industrial and agricultural sectors thanks to the exhibition, according to MIE.
China has been the biggest exporter to Kenya since 2015.
