A Journalist namely Omar Ali of Kangani Pemba Region, was yesterday attacked and brutally assaulted by police officers who then abandoned him at Maisara area in Zanzibar.
The journalist was on duty collecting information from a voters registration centre in Migombani. It is believed that the suspected police officers said/thought he is a Chama cha Wananchi (CUF) reporter and decided to attack him.

The journalist has sustained a broken leg (as pictured on the hospital bed).
It is worth noting that:
Such incidents happen after the people of Zanzibar have explicitly said they will ensure each registration centre registers residents and not planted individuals who will vote as residents in support of a particular political party. It has been rumored that the leading party CCM is planning to do so especially in Zanzibar, where there is every indication for the leading party to lose the October elections.
