All Non-governmental Organizations were registered under Non-governmental Act, 2002 are required to prepare and submit their Annual activities and financial reports to the office of the Registrar of Non-Governmental Organizations.
However majority of CEOs do not file their reports on time as stipulated into the Act which results in them having to pay unnecessary penalties which disturbs the cash flow of the organization.
Whoever fail to submit Annual activities and financial reports for two years consecutively his/her NGO will be suspended or cancel a certificate of registration.
Section 29 (1) (a) and (b) of NGOs Act, 2002 states that; Each Non-Governmental Organization shall for every calendar year:
(a). Prepare a report of its activities which shall be made available to the Public, the Council, the Board and other stake holders;
(b). Prepare an annual audited report and submit copies thereof to the Council and the Board.
Submission of annual activities and financial reports are also emphasized by National Council of Non-governmental Organizations that was established as per section 25 (1) by Non-governmental Act, 2002.
Paragraph 7.1 (l) and (m) of National Council of NGOs states that; Each Non-Governmental Organization shall:
(l) Prepare comprehensive and financial statements in accordance with sound accounting practice.
(m) Ensure that its financial statements are independently audited by registered and competent auditors.
The deadline to submit the Annual activities and Financial Reports is usually released by the office of the Registrar of NGOs. However in most cases the deadline is April of the year after the end of financial year to which it relates.
Note that all NGOs are required to submit their Annual activities and Financial Reports not later than the deadline as set by the office of the Registrar of NGOs for each year of operations.
