A Volkswagen vehicle assembly plant coming to Thika

Volkswagen executives paid a courtesy call to state house where the president revealed that they intend to use the KVM plant in Thika to assemble vehicles, hili mnalionaje wadau?

how do we move from assembly to manufacture????

power cost? or quality?
tax on importation of raw material?
labour? incentives?

we need to have like a policy to implemwnt or something to tell investors we are serious and we mean business, just like we did with ICT, we made our intentions known and we took action.... ethiopia next door said they want to be Africas car assembly and manufacture hub, we also need our own ambition... we need to be agressive about this, we should be going out there to the car manufactures and tell them, come build your manufacturing plants here, we will give you everything you need, we have the labour, the power, the land, all we need is the experties, any raw material you wont find in kenya, we'll let you import from other african countries for free

A sign that many are confident of the Macro economy now and for the foreseeable future.Also,a nod to the skills in Kenya, whether technical or managerial. You don't just build an assembly plant anywhere. Let's wait for more press releases to that effect. Am also curious as to which models they plan to make there.

I have come kugundua mijitu fulani hapa JF toka tanzania are tribal to the core. They sleep, breath and organism tribalism. Given a chance they would have been in Rwanda in 1994 tribal killings! Its pure nonsense, business is about what makes economic sense, return on investments and dividend generated for shareholders. These are private businesses not a random Ujamaa village buddy!!!!

I am glad to let Tanzanians talk about tribalism in kenya while Volkswagen overlooks Tanzania for kenya.

mamarosa unajifanya unanajua lakini hakuna unachojua kuhusu Kenya, potelea mbali na uwivu wako wa kike. thika is a metropolitan area, utapata kila mtu huko, wewe unashinda hapa ukijaribu ku hate on everything Kenya but at the end of the day na resources zote mnazo mnakuwa overlooked kwenye mambo mengi ya maana, keep fooling yourself.

Hey man mbona nimewapa hongera kwa hili dili sasa kosa langu ni lipi tena au kwa sababu nimesema Kikuyu land? Mbona hili ni jambo la kawaida sana Kenya ni linaruhusiwa hata Universities kuna Viongozi wa Makabila, hata kwenye siasa kuna GEMA (Kikuyu, hizo herufi nyingine EMA sijui ni makabila gani ...), mimi girlfriend wangu anatoka Kenya ndiyo maana napata ishu za huko na nimefika mara nyingi tu!

Shida langu sio wewe kutaja kabila, shida langu ni wewe kuona maendeleo yanaegemea pande moja ilhali sivyo mambo yanavyo endelea. hujaona kwenye kibandiko hapo juu VW watatumia KVM plant in Thika, kumaanisha plant yenyewe ipo so hamna haja ya kutengeneza nyingine.Unajua sisi wanadamu tukitaka kuona kasoro kwenye jambo lolote tutaona tu, mbona tusiwe positive tunaangalia pande zote mbili, kama mazuri yana outweigh mabaya then that project is viable.

The Japanese auto maker Tuesday launched the assembly with the first Hino truck and bus rolling off the plant in Changamwe.
Speaking at the Associated Vehicles Assemblers (AVA) Mombasa where the vehicles are being assembled, Hino Motors general manager Kazuhiko Wanabe said it expects to produce 40 trucks and buses each month but will increase production to 200 units within a few months of operation. Toyota hopes to sell 1,200 Hino units by 2015.
“Being the largest vehicle assemblers in Kenya, AVA was a natural Hino production partner. Our engineers are especially impressed by the level of expertise of the Kenyan workforce and we hope to continue growing local skills and indigenous industry capacity as our business grows,” said the general manager of the firm owned by Toyota Group.
The launch of the plant is expected to take competition to other bus makers including General Motors East Africa, which currently commands the biggest portion of the market from its flagship Isuzu trucks and buses. Toyota has largely been confined to the small cars and trucks segment.

Thika road the road to nowhere? i am not sure there is any road that has traffic density that Thika road carries in a day in east and central africa even if we calculate with the pre-expansion numbers. So yes, that nowhere is a place with too many cars for our roads

apart from nairobi,na mombasa nafikiri thika ndo ni mji uko na industry nyingi zaidi.. na hata hakuna mtu hua anauongelea hapa, watu hua wanauvuka na kutaja miji mingine. .... Usifikiri kenya iligenga kilomita 42 za leni 10 ya barabara kwasababu inarembesha, kuna vitu vingi sana husafirishwa kutoka thika kwenda sehemu zengine na pia za export mpaka jkia haswa vile kuna bypass ya kutoka thika road hapo ruiru mpaka embakasi karibu na jkia
