After the assassination of his father Alexender II, the new Tsar Alexander III interpreted that the Winter Palace was not safe enough, moving with his family to the Gatchina Palace, located south of Saint Petersburg.
His obsession with his safety made him visit, heavily protected, Saint Petersburg on certain occasions, but even then he preferred to stay at the Anichkov Palace.
Almost every summer, Alexander used to go with his wife and children to family gatherings held by King Christian IX of Denmark at Fredensborg Palace and Bernstorff Palace.
These events were attended by his sister-in-law, Queen Alejandra of Denmark, wife of King Edward VII or King George I of Greece, together with his wife Olga Konstantínova Románova, cousin of the tsar. Alexander came to enjoy the relative peace and freedom with which he resided in Denmark, in contrast to the extreme security that he possessed in Russia.
On October 17, 1888, the imperial train derailed as a result of an attack near Borky, in the Kharkov Governorate. The tsar himself raised the collapsed roof of the train as his children escaped.
There have always been attacks against the Tsar's family, decades passed until their objective was fulfilled with the arrest of Nikolay II and the looting of Holy Russia.
