After the recent Gen Z riots in Kenya, Nigeria, and potentially other regions, there has been a mixed interpretation of what exactly Gen Z represents. Some view them as lawless troublemakers who enjoy creating chaos, while others see them as frustrated, disillusioned young people who can no longer tolerate poor governance in their countries.

Across the African continent, many governments exploit their citizens' inadequate education to maintain control, embezzle funds, and mistreat them. Africa leads the world in countries with the lowest education levels, where corruption, poor governance, and coups are common. Leaders often live opulent lives while ignoring the suffering and poverty of their people. They have the wealth and power to silence dissent, even during peaceful protests.

So what exactly is Gen Z?
Gen Z refers to the generation born roughly between the mid-to-late 1990s and the early 2010s. They are known for growing up with the internet, social media, and advanced technology as integral parts of their lives. This generation is often characterized by their tech-savviness, progressive social views, and emphasis on digital communication.

A fair warning to President Ruto, President Tinubu, and all other leaders: Please take this seriously and remember my words. Generation Z could be the transformative force Africa has been waiting for. Listen to them and do not underestimate their power.

Very true, the impact of Gen-Z protests across Africa on the continent's political stability will largely depend on the responses of governments and the ability of political systems to adapt to the demands of a younger, more vocal generation. Constructive engagement and addressing underlying issues could lead to positive long-term changes, while neglect or repression could exacerbate instability and discontent.
