Hi All,

I hope this finds you all well. I was at Pangani Police Station yesterday (8th) and Friday the 4th in a bid to document abuses resulting from police operations. In brief, for the moment I was allowed in, Pangani Police cells were dirty (inhuman) and full beyond capacity, with people stepping or sitting on each other on Friday. Yesterday during the day the situation had eased a little. But that is not the purpose for this email. On Friday, I was at Pangani for quite a while (I witnessed a lot of police brutality). In the process, we got friendly with one officer, just about 24 years old. It was only later that he told that he does not work at Pangani but that he was part of an ATPU team that had been brought there to assist in the operation. We stopped to chart every time we met within the station. At some point he started talking about Mombasa and Makaburi. Then he commented that the next high profile person they will be looking for is Al Amin Kimathi. This was Friday the 4th. I just wanted to flag this out just in case.

MUSLIM for Human Rights Forum executive director Al Amin Kimathi has said his life is in danger. He said he fears for his life after officials from human rights bodies told him that he is on a 'next-to-be-killed' order after Sheikh Abubakar Shariff alias Makaburi.

According to an email by a senior Kenyan researcher with an international human rights body that was forwarded to the Star, and while quoting an officer from the anti-terrorism police unit based at the Pangani police station, Al Amin "will be the next high profile" person the "death squad" will be looking for.

"During a chat at the police station, at some point he (the ATPU officer) started talking about Mombasa and Makaburi. Then he commented that the next high profile person they will be looking for is Al Amin Kimathi. This was Friday the 4th. I just wanted to flag this out just in case," said the researcher, who cannot be named for fear of his life may be endangered.

The email was allegedly sent to Kimathi and copied to a number of local and international human rights organisations including the Kenya National Rights Commission, the Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa, Freedom House and Front Line Defenders .

Kimathi, who is known for his fiery approaches on what he calls human rights abuses by state agents especially the police, said he is being targeted for elimination due to his "struggle for justice".

"I am not worried as I must die one day and if it is to die for my ideals and the positions I have adopted in my work, I will gladly do so," he said.

"My struggle for justice is my jihad. Dying for the cause, without inviting such an ending, will be the most honourable thing to do for me. I see these threats as an opportunity to focus more on our work and I hope to turn them around to become such advocacy."

Asked whether he recorded statement with the police, Kimathi said that "will be unnecessary".

"I don't see the logic of doing that with your would-be eliminators. It is absolutely useless," he said.

He said will seek audience with the Interior Secretary Joseph ole Lenku and Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo.

he deserve to be blacklisted as a hate sympathizers like makaburi.siku zake za kuishi zinahesabika.

Just what is his problem? as a muslim he should be happy going to heaven LOL

All our lives are in danger during this dark period in our republic, but they become even more in danger when you make your only purpose in life is to preach hate and frustrate government efforts. Unapoichokonoa serikali wakati wa hatari kama sasa, basi usimlaumu mtu yanapokukuta.

Kajitakia sasa analalama

Hakuna aliyecheza na serikali asiungue Japo kucha

This does not look real,,this is fake,,,how do you meet a 24 years policeman and he
start giving you,,confidential information,,just like that??????

These human right activists,,work together.

Al Amin Kimathi has been saying this,,,for the past five years,,that his life
has been in danger,,,this is what people say in Kenya when they want
to stay in the headlines,,,politicians says this,,all the time,,so it is not
a new thing in Kenya.

Last time,,,Al Amin took himself to Uganda to be detained.

After those bombing in Kampala,,,he was foolish enough
to go there and try represent those suspects there as a
human right activist.

He had made that mistake of thinking that he can have the
freedom of doing everything,,anywhere, as they do in Kenya.

He was staring death or,,,, long life in Ugandan jails until
the Kenyan government saved his life.

After going down for sometime,,,he now comes up with
those cooked allegations.

Is he a Somali too or is he supporting Al Shabaab?
