A parliamentary aspirant dramatically threatened to kill herself outside The National Alliance offices in Mombasa to protest a decision by the party to give a nomination certificate to someone else.

More confusion rocked the Siaya county gubernatorial race for the fifth day after two aspirants claimed to have received calls from the ODM elections board notifying them of their nomination.

The two incidents were some of the highlights of a day of protests, confusion and endless wrangles among key coalitions even after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission extended the deadline for submission of candidates lists to noon on Tuesday.

The unending wrangles prompted presidential candidates Raila Odinga (Cord) and Uhuru Kenyatta (Jubilee) to try and cool tempers in their parties and coalitions.

"The losers in Cord should now work closely with the winners to deliver victory on March 4. Those who lost should join hands in campaigning for victory," said Mr Odinga at Wilson Airport, Nairobi.

Mr Kenyatta asked the losers in the TNA and United Republican Party nominations to concede defeat, promising them government jobs if Jubilee wins the next elections.

"Give the winners time to serve the electorate for the next five years and if they fail to deliver the voters will kick them out," he said at Chebilat trading centre on the border of Sotik and Borabu districts.

To demonstrate the anger and confusion that has marked the primaries, Ms Amina Ridhwani threatened to take her life outside the TNA Mombasa office after she was denied a nomination certificate.

She wailed, banged tables and threw herself on the ground, claiming she was the sole aspirant for the Likoni parliamentary seat. She said she had paid a Sh150,000 nomination fee - a princely sum to her. "We need to be told why I have been denied the nomination certificate, where is justice, I am traumatised," wept Ms Ridhwan.

The community health worker who said she invested a lot of resources, including spending time away from her family, threatened to go to court to contest the decision.

"I will take legal action if I am not issued with the certificate," said Ms Ridhwani.

In Siaya, Mr Otieno Okanja and Mr Rasanga Amoth claimed the party had been in touch with them on the new development but none had been handed the nomination certificate.

In Kipipiri, tension remained high as people waited anxiously for TNA to release the results following a dispute involving Transport minister Amos Kimunya.

Amina ni mfanyakazi wa sekta ya Afya, lakini hii gharama ya fomu ya kuomba kugombea ya shs 150,000 ya Kenya ni kubwa sana kwa kada ya utumishi alionao Amina, ana haki ya kupiga kelele kwa vile anasema hakuwa na mpinzani, Mh Uhuru hii ndio nini unafanya?????

I like drive ya wengi wa wananchi wa Kenya; wapo so aggressive and well driven in issues zinazowagusa directly na hawana kuchekea chekea kinafiki kwa woga pale anapo m'face anaemchafua roho! Hili kwetu Tanzania ndio linatusumbua.. woga wa reaction hasa ya mtu mmoja. Zaidi tukijitahidi ni lazima iwe katika mob but not kwa mtu mmoja...

hakuna kitu hapo wanasiasa ni majitu ya ajabu sana hata hapa wakati fulani waziri mkuu aliwahi kulia bungeni unafikiri ni uchungu maana baada ya pale story iliishia hapohapo kwasasa yuko bize na mizinga ya nyuki. yaani ukikaa ukawaamini wanasiasa utakuja juta kwenye maisha yako pale utakapokuja kugundua kuwa miwsho wa siku alikuwa analilia maslaya binafsi na sio maslai ya wapiga kura au ya taifa kwaujumla.
Mi washanichosha kabisa na ninafikiri ni njia gani inaweza kuyasaidia mataifa haya ya Afrika katika kuondokana na viongozi wabinafsi na wanafiki kama hawa, maana hata sheria zipo lakini hawazifwati, wanaiba kura na kungangania madaraka wakija na miavuli wa viongozi kumbe ni watawala dhalimu
 
Kenyan politicians can be very dramatic at times. I remember that sharobalo-acting MP..I forgot his name. He used to pull some silly antics in the streets.

Kwani kugombea ubunge ndiyo sababu yake ya kuishi? Akijiua ndiyo atakuwa amefanikiwa kuwa mbunge? Maneno ya Amina ni ushahidi tosha kuwa anahitaji kumuona daktari wa akili haraka sana iwezekanavyo.
