• This year’s red carpet was markedly different from last year’s in the abundance, variety and quality of gowns, dresses, tuxedos on display. Last year’s fete featured African wear of questionable quality and limited creativity.
• While lauding the efforts of the stars to entertain on and off the screen, we hope that this year event serves as the silver lining to Kenya’s fashion industry to innovate and create outfits that are classy versatile worthy of this calibre of an event.

Kalasha awards have become Kenya’s Oscars. It is a meeting point point of all that is creative on and off the screen.

The gala event is held annually to recognise people making a difference in film and TV as well as encouraging them to create more local content.

While artists are known to favour an “alternative look”, they put their best foot forward to walk the Kalasha Red carpet.

It turns out they actually clean out well when and if they choose to.

Kenya’s film industry has shown a tremendous growth in the past few years and fashion designers have taken notice.

There were ladies in red; however, this is the one colour many of our celebs do not wear too well. Many of the red dresses were too busy.

There were yellows, gold and a fierce orange that served to turn up the heat on a chilly night.

It is at this event that the black dresses disappointed even the indefatigable little, black dress could not rescue the actresses who chose a fabric, cut, and size of dress that could not be flattering on anyone.

Shape wear too was lacking and carefully chosen get ups did not sit and flatter as well as they should have.

Dresses too came with a view and the back details added some drama.

Celebrities world over too are early adopters and pioneers when it comes to fashion and we say some unexpected twists in the accessories department.

Gentlemen at the event embraced colour and accessories to go with their tuxedos and bow ties. Man bags were however missing in action.

While lauding the efforts of the stars to entertain on and off the screen, we hope that this year event serves as the silver lining to Kenya's fashion industry to innovate and create outfits that are classy versatile worthy of this calibre of an event.
