Anne Makinda appears now the most attractive presidential candidate for CCM after a careful analysis of a teaming list of presidential pretenders found wanting. It is true Makinda's record is incomparable to everyone else within CCM ranks before professor Anne Tibaijuka was outfoxed by the deceptions of graft eaters!

CCM path to power demands an inspirational presidential candidate free of scepters of graft but is a well established figure that can easily resonate with voters, and at least for now, Makinda aptly fits the bill.

Where gender arithmetic are casually resisted but they are part of the recipes to sell this candidate among frazzled voters. For CCM rebranding has become not only a survival tool but a necessity, as well. CCM needs a candidate whose calibrations is without an iota of graft allegations, a team builder and extraordinary sensitivity to the plight of ever-growing class of the poor in our highly stratified society in income disparities.

Makinda has, so far, moderated her presidential ambitions and has not shown an appetite to amass wealth despite a number of lucrative positions she happened to be endowed. While those leadership characters were once brandished by Ben Mkapa but we now know better that he took us to the scalpel! There are legitimate reasons to believe Makinda is no cunning Mkapa.

Mkapa had a reason to cloak himself with hypocrisy because the no nonsense Nyerere was his boss. So Mkapa nursing no nonconformist laurels had to shape in or he would have been shipped out in a manner Mr. Kambona was hounded out of office.

It is fair to presume Mkapa was a cunning politician - an acumen, Makinda had no reason to emulate given the loose morals dominating our political class. It is fair to argue Makinda is "what you see, is what you get.". She has no motivation to cloak her true character behind any form of hypocrisy.

But that amplified, we also harbour serious concerns for her candidature. While she seems to have grown in the job of the House for being tolerant to the ever vociferous opposition's dissent but she does not seem perturbed in any notable way by official graft.

Where we credit her for not dipping her delicate fingers in our Treasury but she condones and abets graft by not rebuking it! Her failure to strike out the name from MPs' register of Mr. Andrew Chenge following his three year criminal conviction is a case in hand.

Mr. "Minor Change" may have paid a token to save himself but that meant he served the three years and should not have continued pegging a tent in the House let alone writing our most polarising constitutional order to date.

Makinda pussycated to remove Escrow mandarins from chairing House committees signaling she is unlikely to seriously rein in upon official graft. During her Speaker's tenure we witnessed no laws hatched to end ever snowballing tax exemptions which now are four times the swag we squeeze from donor community. The question is:- will Makinda presidency end tax exemptions and this nation living beyond our means with such wantonly lending indiscipline?

Sadly, the answer is no! Despite the novelty of romancing a female presidential candidate, the facts are loud and defeaning that official graft will not be nipped in the bud but will blossom.

Since we know her presidential candidature is a smokescreen to deceive us the nation will gather developmental pace we know she is just another pipe dream standing no chance to confront the ghosts condemning us to endemic poverty.

As for me, I am least troubled to know that she is no agent of social change but one area I will be pleased to prod her on is to declare her marital status by just showing me, a likely voter, who is this mysterious man in her life. If she cannot fight official graft, at least she ought to be a role model where family values may root to her as its most vocal defender but not its unashamed scoffer.

While her marital status may be not at limelight however for someone running for the highest post in the country it has to be known. Handling things well at family level may give a glimpse of her leadership role in the family.

Of all the possible candidates, Anna Makinda?
Wake up and stop dreaming!

Rutashubanyuma do you think Tanzanians are ready for Woman President?

NYAKIMWE We are ready for anything even for the opposition! The only way we will ever be certain is when we get there but Makinda has the prerequisites when she shows us who is her hubby.

jerrytz you are spot on. Family institutionalize all other institutions. In fact, family is the mother of all institutions where value systems are instilled at tender age where we are all vulnerable and easily amenable to parental and peer guidance, good or not.

Based on this finding, her presidential exasperation is doomed even before she has collected a ccm presidential nomination form at a give away price of TSHS 5M.

mansakankanmusa Thank you! The problem is you have not made any contribution to the topic beyond alerting us that your bloated ego has been irreparably bruised because of your vocabulary limitations!

Next time contribute then advise accordingly! I have appraised your command of the Queen's lingua and I have come to a sad conclusion the problem is on your side, not mine!

Dear mansakankanmusa there are too many grammatical, vocabulary and diction errors in your curt submission and it is not fair to blame others for your own shortcomings!

Of recent, Minister for Women affairs has hinted her support for a woman presidency indicating that even if she is running a single family it is not a weakness but a strength!

I can't be more distraught! The welfare of a society is best served in a family institution, and single parent families should be discouraged at all costs.

It is tantamount to a dysfunctional family. Most of societal ills spring from single parent families where children are not properly groomed to assume their positions in the society.

So having that in mind, Anne's candidacy is an unfortunate case where though a female is a clearly desirable but promoting single parenthood is a huge mistake.

We dont think about having a woman president all of them are weak however they contribute us to be there since childhood but we cant think to gve any of them to control our state.

Goodness me, they'd rather go for Lowassa if they are exhausted of presidential candidates! She's just way too partisan to be the head of state!

I concur with you, A head of state is not like a Yanga or Simba couch where you can sack him/her anytime you want, Madam speaker has not shown any capability of being a head of state let alone a speaker of the general assembly, from the way she speak to the way she act. Being a speaker for the general assembly has shown how weak she is, even all females who have been in the system non of them has shown anything to be regarded as a presidential material

ngafu I reckon presidential post is an executive one but speaker's one is a legislative ambit rendering such comparisons futile!

Let us analyze her over four decades of accumulated experience in public service you will be soothed by pleasant surprises!

Less than five years analysis of her over forty years of emboldened résumé is manifestly myopic and wantonly biased!

barafuyamoto When we pick presidents our mutual choices tip the scales in favour of graft-haters and stubbornly refusing to reward ethical malpractices.

We know humans are born to err but graft munchers ought to give us a break this time around!

Points noted Parcel but don't you think it is up to our generation to jettison outdated cultures and norms which have frustrated our daughters and sisters let alone our mothers from melting the leadership ceiling?

If she manage to get a Presidential ticket for CCM, She will automatically be defeated by UKAWA candidate. She is actually not performing well as National assembly Speaker. It is high time for her to retire from politics.

1952 you cannot prove any of your outrageous allegations. Do you know how old she is? She is much younger than Dr. Slaa or Professor Lipumba.

Are you not discriminating her because she is a woman? Gender discrimination is illegal in this part of the world needs no further reminder, though!

By the way, UKAWA prospective presidential candidates cannot rival her strutting public service résumé. Actually, they can hardly contend against her long proven public service career.

So how can they knock her off her political rails? It beats anybody's imagination to evade truthfulness!

Rutashubanyuma so should someone be disqualified for the job just because they're single even if they have strong credentials?!, and would you guys make it a conversation if she was a man?!

kui

I like her and considers her a putative presidential candidate deserving a decent shot in this congested presidential contest. However my concern is not, at all, whether she has dubitable prerequisites to bag home this much coveted docket but rather whether she would have been a better moral leader if she was married.

Single families and those aspiring to meander their ways there, will be emboldened by her matriarchal laurels havocking a nation already teeming with despicable street children!

The fate of our children demand her to show some moral leadership.

That's all!

I believe it will be even more difficult for a bachelor to successfully run for this highest post in the public service than for a spinster. It narrates why Mkapa had to reunite with his estranged wife at the hour of presidential want just to bamboozle us he was a family man!

I am not sure we were that gullible save for vote rigging in 1995.

In that election, Mrema was vilified for fornication albeit we now know it was part of an elaboratef ccm scheming to mudsling him as unfit to lead because of concocted extra marital distractions!

Men have an even higher moral standard than women in this nation to clamber where family values still mean something!
