Arsene Wenger: Arsenal fans make me feel like a murderer

Arsene Wenger, Arsenal's most successful manager, says that he has been left feeling like a murderer following the critical response to the club's fourth consecutive season without silverware.

With Wenger facing the prospect of watching Sir Alex Ferguson win his 11th Premier League title at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime, the Frenchman has grown increasingly annoyed at what he describes as "unbelievable" criticism.

This season will be the third in a row that Arsenal have finished fourth and fans are running out of patience, turning on him at a shareholders meeting on Thursday night. But Wenger insisted the attacks on his young side were unfair.

"You sit here, you are in the last four in Europe, and every day, you feel you have killed someone. If you do not take a distance with it, you think what kind of world do you live in?

"We lost against United who have 10 times more resources, they are the best in the world. In sport, you have to accept that. It is like they are ashamed to be fair.

"There is no shame to say, 'Yes you are the best'. We were in the last four with a very young team – that is the reality.

"We have to keep a little bit of common-sense. Our average age in midfield is 22 – normally you play not to go down in the Premier League with a team like that."

Ferguson's side need only a point against Arsenal to secure the club's 18th League title to equal the number of championships won by Liverpool.

After guiding Arsenal to seven major trophies over the past 11 years, Wenger said he had become a victim of his own success but insisted that the inquest would not cause him to consider his own position.

"Frankly, I can take on that with the needed distance," he said. "I look in the mirror and think, 'Have I given everything, have you done the maximum you can?'

"I believe this club is in a fantastic situation, you look at the financial situation of the club, you look at the quality of the squad, I'm pretty envious of this club if I'm outside of the club.

"We have lost against Chelsea and we have lost against Manchester United. It hurts, believe me, but it's not like we have lost against nobody.

"I believe that the biggest regret of the season is that the supporters were ready for a hot night against Man United and we couldn't deliver. For me that was the failure of the season.

"Apart from that, I believe what the team has achieved in the last six months is amazing, but at the moment it's all one big tribunal. It's one of the best seasons for a long time considering where we were in November."

With Alisher Usmanov ready to ask fellow billionaire shareholder Stan Kroenke to consider a right issue to help generate a larger transfer budget, Wenger has said that wants to add a maximum of two experienced players this summer.

"These players will win and want to win – nothing is definite, it can all turn very quickly," he said.

Five possible transfer targets: Marcos Senna (Villarreal), Xabi Alonso (Liverpool), Matthew Upson (West Ham), David Villa (Valencia), Gareth Barry (Aston Villa).

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger gives Chelsea hint over Emmanuel Adebayor

Arsene Wenger has offered Chelsea significant encouragement over Emmanuel Adebayor by admitting that he would be willing to sell one of his players to another of the 'Big Four' clubs.

Chelsea may swoop for Emmanuel Adebayor after Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hinted he would be prepared to deal with main rivals

The Arsenal manager was also reluctant to explain his plans for Adebayor next season. He has previously admitted that the uncertainty which surrounded the forward last summer contributed to the club's poor start.

"I don't want to go especially into any individual assessment of who we want to keep and who not, at the moment, and normally Adebayor is part of our plans for the future," Wenger said. "And, if I feel that a player should go, or could go, why not sell him to one of the other top four? It's unusual, but we sold Ashley Cole to Chelsea and we bought William Gallas so you can never say I never do it."

AC Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti is being lined up to take over at Chelsea and it is understood that he singled out Adebayor as his preferred potential replacement for Didier Drogba. Ancelotti also tried to sign Adebayor for AC Milan last summer, with the player describing it as "like a boy being told BeyoncΓ© is looking for them". Although Adebayor said that he was "100 per cent" staying at Arsenal in the aftermath of the Champions League semi-final defeat, he was among the substitutes for the next match against Chelsea. When he did come on, he was booed by some supporters.

"I believe he has been disturbed at the start [of the season] by a bit of bad feelings from the fans because he was close to leaving, and it unsettled him a little bit," Wenger said. Asked if part of him thought he should have sold Adebayor, Wenger said: "In this path you are always in a very delicate position. I cannot tell you all the truth, what happened behind the scenes, and secondly, when you want to keep the players, you keep the players, you do not really look at how much money you get.

"What was not planned was to lose Flamini last year and to lose Hleb, and so I thought, if we lose Flamini and Hleb, for example, and Adebayor, and Rosicky gets injured, people will say: 'This guy has gone completely mad'."

Following his year-long loan, AC Milan have the option to buy Philippe Senderos but Armand Traore will return from Portsmouth while Tomas Rosicky yesterday completed his first full training session after 16 months out.

Manchester United can clinch the Premier League title against Arsenal on Saturday, although Wenger will leave any 'guard of honour' for the Hull players next week.

Wenger received what has been described as a "grilling" on Thursday night when he answered questions from shareholders, with the team accused of lacking fight.

4 yrs now with same story. It has been too long!!

Makosa ambayo SAF huwa hayafanyi kabisa. It is time to have a new coach to rescue our team.

anamlaumu nani wakati yeye ndiye asiyetaka over 30 wapewe contract zaidi ya mwaka mmoja?

4yrs without a silverware halafu analalama eti wapenzi hawana uvumilivu, CRAP!

No way bana,... YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING MR WENGER!

I don't mind akimuuza Adebayor,...kama alimuuza Anelka, Henry, na Pires...who the heck is Adebayor asiuzwe? ...tatizo anauza mchezaji ananunua 'kituko!', we will win nothing under Wenger, he have lost it completely 😑

Go away you Loser!

Wameshaanza kumzomea, same kama walivyomfanyia Ebue. Mchezaji mweusi anapoanza kuzomewa performance yake inashuka na anakosa confidence on the road.

Huyu ndio nani?

Anyway, inapoingia sumu ya ubaguzi siwezi changia sana mazee, I reserve my sentiments on these issues kwa sasa.

...πŸ˜€ nakweli mazee, hata Afro-Caribbeans wanatuona Nuksi, kama hilo halitoshi, hata weusi kwa weusi tunabaguana, West Africans against southern africans, ...African Arabs (Moroccans, Algerians, hata Egyptians)against Bantus etc etc...

...tupo pamoja mkuu. πŸ™

ARSENE WENGER has refused to rule out a summer switch to Real Madrid.

The Gunners' long-serving boss was coy when asked on French TV whether he had spoken to Madrid presidential candidate Florentino Perez.
Far from denying it, Wenger just said: "Please allow me to remain discreet on this matter."
Perez is the overwhelming favourite to win next month's presidential election at the Bernabeu.
Wenger added: "With Perez, the project will be greatly interesting for all the managers."
Frenchman Wenger took over at Arsenal in September 1996 and has NEVER walked out on a club before the end of his contract.
But this time, he would only say: "In general, I always go to the end of my contract."
The TF1 report also claimed Wenger held a meeting with Perez in a hotel in Paris last Tuesday.
But after the goalless draw with Manchester United on Saturday, Wenger insisted he was looking forward to challenging the Red Devils for the title next season
And Wenger has already told United boss Alex Ferguson: "We'll be fighting you for the title next season."
The fourth-placed Gunners are 18 points behind champions United in the table and were soundly thumped 4-1 by Fergie's men in the Champions League semi-finals.
But amidst the noisy celebrations of United's 18th title win on Saturday, Wenger said: "We will be challenging them next season. You cannot see what we saw at Old Trafford and say we cannot achieve that.
"We had seven players 22 years old on the pitch. Why should we not hope to be even better next year?
"It was very important we played well in this game. I knew that for the future of the team it was important to give a strong response here."
And he claimed striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who missed the trip to United through injury, will stay.
Wenger added: "The players are under contract unless we decide otherwise. At the moment, everyone will stay."
