Hass Group has announced that it has signed a Sh 20 billion agreement with the world’s largest Construction Company; China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSEC), to construct the tallest building in Africa in Nairobi’s business district of Upper Hill.

Speaking at the signing ceremony that was held at Kempinski Hotel in Beijing, Chairman of Hass Petroleum Group, Mr Abdinassir Ali Hassan described the signing as a ‘historic’ event and congratulated CSCEC on winning the contract after a long negotiation and tender process.

He said, “It has not been an easy road. CSCEC went through a rigorous tender system which they won over ten international companies including European, Turkish as well as other Chinese competitors. Hass Group awarding the contract to CSCEC demonstrates a stronger growing economic partnership between the Chinese Government and the Kenyan Government, and is a testament to Kenya’s economic and political stability. This project will give CSCEC a majestic entry point into Africa.”

Mr Li Mingguang, Vice President of CSCEC Overseas Operations said, “This will be the tallest building in Africa and become a landmark in Kenya. It is sure to drive regional development, promote economic growth, and attract more investment and tourism into Kenya. China State Construction understands the importance of this grand project and is honoured to be chosen as the main contractor.”

Standing over 300 metres high with 67 storeys, the tallest tower is designed to represent ‘the height of African achievement’, considerably taller than the current record holder, the Carlton Centre in South Africa (at 50 floors and 223 m tall).

Nairobi Ranked Third Among Top 10 Best Cities To Visit In 2017

January 8, 2017 Kenyan WallStreet Kenyan News

Travel guidebook and reference publisher, Rough Guides has ranked Nairobi third and the only African City among the top best cities to visit in 2017.

According to the publication, Nairobi is “Africa’s youngest, fastest-growing metropolis and the beating heart of the continent’s largest economy, has for too long been overlooked.”

Last Year, the publication had also ranked ‘Kenya Ranked 9th among the world’s top 10 countries to visit” .

“En route to Kenya’s national parks and palm-fringed beaches, most visitors only make forays into the city for the traditional art markets, coffee stores and museums. Make time to explore further and you’ll find a dynamic urban landscape with cool restaurants, groundbreaking art projects and a burgeoning fashion scene.” Rough Guides noted.

Paris was ranked first followed by Iran’s Isfahan City, Nairobi was third, Bristol (England), fourth, Antwerp (Belgium) in fifth position, Medellin (Colombia) sixth, Atlanta (US) seventh, Osaka (Japan) eighth, Guadalajara (Mexico) ninth with Palma in Mallorca completing the list of top 10 cities.

Uganda & Namibia Also Listed Among the Top 10 Best Countries To Visit in 2017

Neighboring Uganda was ranked fourth best country to visit in 2017 while Namibia came was in the ninth position.

“Dubbed the pearl of Africa” by Winston Churchill in 1908, the small but incredibly diverse nation of Uganda remains a fascinating yet vastly underexplored destination.” Rough Guides says.

Uganda
According to the UK publication, Uganda’s commitment to heavy investment in its tourism infrastructure looks set to change this, though, and in 2017 they expect Uganda to vie with Kenya and Tanzania for international visitors, drawing more and more travellers with its astonishing wildlife.

Namibia only gained independence in 1990, making it one of the last African countries to do so. Though development has taken time, Namibia’s tourism industry is finally taking flight.

A desert in Namibia
“Budding travel photographers will find endless inspiration here, whether skydiving over the planet’s most ancient desert, high-intensity hiking in Fish River Canyon, hot air ballooning over the shimmering Kalahari or on safari tracking free-roaming lions, black rhinos and elephants.Venture to the country’s Skeleton Coast and you’ll find Atlantic waves crashing against the edge of the Namib Desert and washed-up shipwrecks scattered like surrealist sculptures stranded in sand” Rough Guides On Namibia.

The Selous Game Reserve is one of the largest faunal reserves of the world, located in the south of Tanzania. It was named after Englishman Sir Frederick Selous, a famous big game hunter and early conservationist, who died at Beho Beho in this territory in 1917 while fighting against the Germans during World War I. Scottish explorer and cartographer Keith Johnston also died at Beho Beho in 1879 while leading a RSGS expedition to the Great Lakes of Africa with Joseph Thomson. The Selous was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to the diversity of its wildlife and undisturbed nature.

The reserve covers a total area of 54,600 km2 (21,100 sq mi) and has additional buffer zones. Within the reserve no permanent human habitation or permanent structures are permitted. All (human) entry and exit is carefully controlled by the Wildlife Division of the Tanzanian Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism. Some of the typical animals of the savanna (for example African bush elephants, black rhinos, hippopotamus, Masai Lions, East African Wild Dogs, cheetahs, Cape buffaloes, Masai Giraffes and crocodiles) can be found in this park in larger numbers than in any other African game reserve or national park.
