Benjamin Mkapa Hospital is established under the Government Notice No.453 of 2015 which was gazetted by the government on 16th October, 2015 after its inauguration on 13th October,
2015.
The establishment of this hospital emanates from the intention of 4th term President of United Republic of Tanzania Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete to have a hi-tech and modern diagnostic treatment center in Tanzania by 2015 aiming at reducing government burden resulting from referring patients abroad.
The hospital provides specialized and supers-specialized services to both local and international patients. At this moment the Hospital provides a broad range of health services including Renal Transplant, Bone Marrow Transplant, interventional Cardiology& Open- Heart surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, ENT, Urology, interventional Radiology, Oncology Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care Unit, Imaging (Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computerized Tomography Scan (CT scan), Angiography, Cath-Lab, Laboratory
Services, General Surgical Services and Radiotherapy Services.
For a proper continuation in provision of quality specialized health service, the hospital is

1.1 Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing routine specialized services for in-patients and outpatients.
- Supervising ward rounds and advising on appropriate medication.
- Participating in the training of staff.
- Planning, supervising, and evaluating health services in your field.
- Preparing periodic reports regarding services.
- Carrying out research on health services and publishing results for other experts.
- Supervising junior staff and providing technical advice.
- Planning and supervising outreach programs.
- Preparing plans and budget estimates for health services.

1.2 Qualifications and Experience
- Master of Medicine Degree (M.Med) in a relevant medical field.

2. RADIOLOGISTS – Contract (01 Post)
2.1 Duties and Responsibilities
- Carrying out various x-ray examinations.
- Maintaining radiology equipment and records.
- Upkeeping and sterilizing radiology instruments.
- Monitoring safety use of radiation and chemicals.
- Reviewing and submitting research results for health planning.
- Supervising and implementing radiology quality control systems.
- Coordinating activities in the radiology unit.
- Ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and hospital business processes.
- Performing other duties assigned by the supervisor.
- Participating in the Medical Board.
2.2 Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Radiography, Diagnostic Radiography, Medical Imaging, or related field.
- Registered with the Medical Radiology and Imaging Professional Council.

3. PUBLIC HEALTH SPECIALISTS/EPIDEMIOLOGIST – Contract (02 Posts)
3.1 Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and update the Hospital research policy.
- Develop, review, and update the Hospital research code of conduct and ethics.
- Provide information on potential sources of research funding.
- Regularly provide the Hospital Research Bulletin.
- Solicit research funds.
- Develop consultancy guidelines for the hospital.
- Establish and maintain research links.
- Administer research projects.
- Develop research infrastructure.
- Enhance capacity to conduct and disseminate research findings.
- Support and supervise staff in the publication of medical journals and papers.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
3.2 Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Medicine, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related health field.
- Sound knowledge of qualitative research methods or other relevant qualifications.
- Registered with the respective Professional Board.

4. AUDIOLOGIST II – Contract (01 Post)
4.1 Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out audiometric therapy for patients with audio pathology.
- Maintain accurate records of audiometric services provided.
- Compile case reports for monitoring treatment progress.
- Take care of equipment and report malfunctions.
- Interview relatives to gather information for patient treatment.
- Provide technical guidance and support to subordinates.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
4.2 Qualifications and Experience
- Doctor of Medicine Degree in Audiology or an equivalent qualification.
- Successful completion of an internship.
- Registered with the Medical Council of Tanganyika with an active practicing license.

5. SPEECH THERAPIST II – Contract (01 Post)
5.1 Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out speech therapy on patients with speech pathology.
- Compile case reports for each patient to monitor treatment progress.
- Interview relatives and gather information that may assist in patient treatment.
- Maintain accurate records for all patients attended.
- Take care of equipment in the unit/department and report any malfunctions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
5.2 Qualifications and Experience
- Doctor of Medicine Degree in Speech Pathology or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Successful completion of internship.
- Registered with the Medical Council of Tanganyika with an active practicing license.

6. MEDICAL OFFICERS II – Contract (05 Posts)
6.1 Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend to inpatients and outpatients.
- Handle emergency medical duties.
- Conduct investigations of admitted patients.
- Ensure prescribed instructions are carried out.
- Conduct minor operations and assist surgeons in major operations.
- Participate in major ward rounds and service activities.
- Supervise medical students and interns in clinical duties.
- Ensure patients are properly prepared for surgery.
- Participate in morning clinical sessions, patient presentations, and journal clubs.
- Engage in research activities.

8. NURSE OFFICERS II – Contract (02 Posts)
8.1 Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide general nursing care for patients.

- Adhere to the Dangerous Drug Act (DDA) regulations.
- Provide health education to patients and their relatives.

9.1 Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide general nursing care to patients.
- Collect essential medical data.
- Educate patients on their health issues.
- Adhere to the rules and regulations of the Dangerous Drug Act (DDA).
- Administer drugs and treatments as prescribed by medical doctors.
- Provide health education to patients and their relatives.
- Conduct ward rounds.
- Counsel patients.
- Follow up on the maintenance of working equipment in the assigned area.

10. CRITICAL CARE - 2 Posts
10.1 Duties and Responsibilities
- Head the Critical Care Section and manage both capital and human resources.
- Coordinate the provision of Critical Care services.
- Interpret and implement Critical Care policies.
- Set performance targets for all staff and ensure job plans are in place.
- Support staff, students, and researchers from training or research institutions.
- Administer Critical Care ethics and performance.
- Develop and implement standardized policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Manage nursing Critical Care services in the hospital.
- Uphold strong emphasis on quality, infection control, ethics, and governance.
- Ensure the development and implementation of Critical Care guidelines.
10.2 Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Medicine with specialization in a relevant medical field.
- At least 8 years of experience in medical services in a reputable institution.
- Registration with the relevant professional board.
- A Super Specialization Certificate or PhD will be an added advantage.
10.3 Remuneration

11. MEDICAL ATTENDANTS II - 04 Posts
11.1 Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform general cleaning of wards and their surroundings.
- Provide bed baths to bedridden patients.
- Handle bedpans and urinal bottles.
- Feed patients.
- Collect patients' linen for laundry services.
- Send patients for X-rays.
- Send specimens to laboratories and collect results.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and BMH business processes.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by higher authorities.
11.2 Qualifications and Experience
- Form IV/VI Certificate and a one-year Certificate in a health-related field from a recognized institution.
11.3 Remuneration

12. PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNICIANS II - 05 Posts
12.1 Duties and Responsibilities
- Determine, prepare, and order drugs and treatment instruments.
- Store and dispense drugs and treatment instruments as per prescription to patients and staff.
- Compound/Manufacture medicines.
- Educate the public and patients on proper use of medicines.
- Inspect drugs and treatment instruments.
- Provide information on reactions resulting from the use of medicines.
- Prepare reports on the use of drugs and treatment instruments.
- Maintain various records of drugs and treatment instruments.
- Assist in procurement and maintaining adequate drug stock.
- Assist physicians, interns, nurses, and patients with medications.
- Sort and list drugs expiring within three months for attention.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and BMH business processes.

12.2 Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
- Active practicing license from the Pharmacy Council.

13. HEALTH LABORATORY SCIENTISTS II - 02 Posts
13.1 Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory tests and examinations (Haematology, Parasitology, Microbiology, Immunology, Blood Group Serology, Entomology, Clinical Chemistry, and Histopathology) and laboratory research.
- Examine and transfer laboratory samples for further examinations.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and records.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and BMH business processes.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
13.2 Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health Laboratory Technology or a related field (Haematology, Parasitology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Histopathology, Blood Transfusion, Molecular Biology).
- Completion of internship.
- Registered with the Health Laboratory Practitioners Council with an active practicing license.

14. HEALTH LABORATORY TECHNOLOGISTS II - 04 POSTS
14.1 Duties and Responsibilities- Assisting in receiving, extracting, and recording samples for laboratory examinations.
- Assisting in preparing laboratory equipment and chemicals for tests and examinations.
- Assisting in inspecting and storing laboratory reagents, equipment, and chemicals.
- Assisting in keeping and maintaining laboratory records.

17.1 Duties and Responsibilities- Carrying out regular electrical maintenance and repair of motor starters.
- Completing job cards for all electrical maintenance and repairs.
- Ensuring regular service of motor pumps and control panels in pumping stations.
- Preparing daily, weekly, and monthly preventive and corrective maintenance reports.
- Efficiently repairing all reported electrical faults in buildings, machines, and equipment.

- Holder of a Diploma (NTA Level 6) or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Electrical and Electronics or equivalent.

18. CIVIL TECHNICIAN II - 01 POST
18.1 Duties and Responsibilities- Performing specified craft jobs under supervision.
- Performing routine technical cleaning of the work environment.

- Assisting in operational repairs of machinery, facilities, buildings, and infrastructure.
- Reporting maintenance problems to senior staff.
- Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Holder of Form IV Certificate plus Trade Test Level II in Civil or equivalent field.

19. ARCHITECTURE II - 01 POST
19.1 Duties and Responsibilities- Supervising maintenance and cleaning of the hospital’s drainage systems.
- Participating in the planning of short- and long-term programs for landscaping and drainage system improvements.
- Maintaining relevant equipment in good working order.
- Preparing work schedules.
- Assisting in organizing and controlling estate activities and services.

- Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or equivalent from a reputable institution.
- Registered by the respective Professional Board as a graduate Architect, Valuer, or Quantity Surveyor.

20. RECORDS MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT II (Medical Records) - 02 POSTS
20.1 Duties and Responsibilities- Assisting in tracing records, documents, and files as required.
- Participating in receiving and registering all documents in the registry.
- Assisting in organizing documents and files in cabinets.
- Assisting in filing documents appropriately.
- Receiving, recording, and dispatching correspondence.
- Performing any other duties as assigned by higher authorities.
- Holder of Form IV/VI Certificate plus a Certificate in Records Management, Archives, or equivalent from a recognized institution.

21. SOCIAL WELFARE OFFICER II - 01 POST
21.1 Duties and Responsibilities- Screening in-patients to identify those with social medical problems and reporting to senior staff.
- Preparing periodical reports on patients with social and economic problems.
- Conducting major ward rounds to assess patient progress.
- Collecting data for exempted patients and other cases requiring institutional support.
- Sorting and preparing exemption lists for patients needing assistance.
- Providing counseling services under supervision.
- Ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and BMH business processes.
- Providing coaching services to students at the Benjamin Mkapa Institute of Health and Allied Sciences.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Education Psychology, General Psychology, Counseling and Guidance, or a related field from a reputable institution.

22. MEDICAL OXYGEN PLANT OPERATOR - 01 POST
22.1 Duties and Responsibilities- Filling medical oxygen cylinders.
- Distributing oxygen cylinders to wards.
- Loading cylinders for transport.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Holder of Form IV Certificate.
- Remuneration package according to the Ministry of Health National Health Workforce Volunteering Guidelines of July, 2021.
