Kenya Airways makes bid to take over JKIA

To be able to ascertain the viability of the project, KAA has appointed an adviser to assist and guide comprehensive due diligence and an evaluation process for the project.

The process, according to Mr Andersen, is structured in line with requirements of the Public Private Partnership Act.

Kenya Airways is set to merge with KAA as part of a grand plan to deepen the airline’s recovery and cement Nairobi’s status as a regional transport hub.

According to a policy paper seen by the Business Daily which got the cabinet’s approval in June, the aim is to reposition KQ in a similar fashion as its main rivals, including Ethiopian Airlines, which have relied on government backing to expand their reach.

My opinion
KQ, a broke private company is acquiring government owned KAA which has many valuable assets. The deal is suggested to put KQ in a similar position with Ethiopian airlines... We know Ethiopian airlines is a pure government owned.

In other words, the government of Kenya is giving KAA to private KQ shareholders free of charge!!

What the hells is this thread about? All I see is utter nonsense.

Punguza pumba. Tafuta tafsiri ya taarifa yenyewe kwa kiswahili.

Ahaaa haaa haaa

KQ Has zero net assets after years of losses and debt.
The banks have 40% control of the Airline, they need to be paid back while KQ is still bankrupt.
The only solution to paying back the banks is to give All Airports in kenya free ofcharge to the banks now owning KQ.

You obviously have no idea about the financial restructuring that KQ underwent. Since the debt owed to the banks was converted to 38% equity, that effectively means that no debt is owed to them anymore as they are now partial owners.

PS don't rush to talk about things you have no idea about. You end up looking stupid.

You need some analytical skill to be able to read in-between the lines and decipher what the article subtly imply...
Did you read the part where it says public private partnership PPP, do you understand how it works? I mean does UDART own Tanzanian roads where the BRT lanes pass??? No they don't!

This deal btn KQ and KAA essecially means KQ will manage JKIA on behalf of the Govt (like how RVR used to manage the Kenya Uganda rail on behalf of The two countries) ... This is good news because KQ will think interns of business sense unlike GoK which sometimes only thinks politically.... You can now expect the Greenfield terminal project to come back and construction of the 5km 2nd runway to be hastened because KQ will be thinking of how ET is about to make Addis Ababa the main hub with their construction of a new mega terminal...
