- The supporters of TNA’s candidate for the Othaya parliamentary seat have broken out in wild celebrations after their candidate Mary Wambui was announced the winner of the hotly contested seat.

Wambui survived strong competition from Gichuki Mugambi and Peter Kingara to take the seat which was previously occupied by President Mwai Kibaki.

Wambui and Mugambi had a memorable tiff during the TNA nominations and the race seemed to be between the two of them but at some point during the tallying process Kingara looked to cause an unlikely upset.

Wambui’s victory represents a humbling defeat for Kibaki who had endorsed Mugambi and even went so far as to make personal attacks against Wambui who is rumoured to be his ‘second wife.’

Kibaki has served the people of Othaya continuously for the last 38 years.
