Cesc Fabregas Tells Arsene Wenger He Is Leaving Arsenal For Barcelona - Report
Cesc has declared his desire to move back home this summer...
Cesc Fabregas held a meeting today with Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger in London and told his French mentor of his desire to leave Arsenal this summer and sign for Barcelona, according to AS.
Now that Fabregas' intentions are clear, Barca are reportedly waiting for the Gunners to put a price on their star captain - one that is likely to exceed the €35 million price tag rumoured earlier this season. If the price does in fact exceed that amount, Barca's possiblities of signing the visionary midfielder could be made more difficult. Some reports today have also speculated that Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be included in the deal to make Cesc more affordable.
Another consideration is the World Cup. If Barca fail to negotiate a deal until after this summer's events, Fabregas' asking price could be well out of range of the Blaugrana chequebook.
Yesterday Barcelona director general Joan Oliver confirmed that the club were negotiating for three players. One of those three is David Villa, for whom the club have reportedly offered €40m. Cesc is likely to be the second.
The 23-year-old Spain international grew up in the Barcelona youth system, but in September 2003, when just 16, he decided to sign for Arsenal. Having now played seven seasons in London, during which time he has played in 264 matches, scoring 70 goals, and is the club captain, it appears a return to Catalunya is imminent.
