Speaking of a bridge, this is a structure which is built to span a physical obstacle, such as a body of water, valley, or road, without closing the way underneath.

It is constructed for the purpose of providing passage over the obstacle, usually something that can be detrimental to cross otherwise.

More so, there are many different designs that each serve a particular purpose and apply to different situations.

Designs of bridges vary depending on the function of the bridge, the nature of the terrain where the bridge is constructed and anchored, the material used to make it, and the funds available to build it.

Most likely, the earliest bridges were fallen trees and stepping stones, while Neolithic people built boardwark bridges across marshland.

The Arkadiko Bridge dating from the 13th century BC, in the Peloponnese, in southern Greece is one of the oldest arch bridges still in existence and use.

However, in Dutch city of Harderwijk, cars have to pass under an orange bridge, which the space is mainly created for trains and cars.

Certainly, this is no ordinary bridge as it contains a paved way for water instead of road or train tracks, the passageway actually holds a 10-foot-deep canal that allows boats to cross the highway.

The Veluwemeer (Dutch) or Lake Veluwe is a boarding lake in the Netherlands, between the provinces of Flevoland on the west side and Gelderland on the east side.

It is a narrow lake that stretches from southwest to northeast. South of Harderwijk the lake becomes het Wolderwijd and North of Elburg her Drontermeer.

While people do think of bridges as roads that cross over water, the bridge, Aqueduct Veuwmeer is the exact inverse, as it is water that crosses over the road.

As N302 traverses from Harderwijk on the mainland of the Netherlands to the Island province of Flevoland, the highway briefly dips below Lake Veluwemeer to allow small ships and sailboats to cross over it.
