Chris Brown has been sentenced to five years of formal felony probation and six months of community service for the assault on then girlfriend, Rihanna in February. The sentencing is part of a plea deal that his lawyers arranged.
Brown and his lawyers agreed for the singer to plead guilty for no prison time. Brown had beaten Rihanna after a pre-Grammy party in Los Angeles. Both had been scheduled to appear at the Grammys but were unable to attend.
Brown will serve his sentence in Virginia. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg had delayed the sentencing until she had been convinced that Virginia would enforce hard labor for the community service portion of Brown's sentence. Brown will also have to attend an anti-domestic violence program reports E! Online.
Brown was told by Judge Schnegg that any violation of his sentence would result in state prison time.
Schnegg has also ordered the singer to stay away from Rihanna for the next five years reports Mercury News. During professional commitments that both are to attend Brown must be at least 10 yards away from the singer, all other times the judge ordered him to remain at least 100 yards away.
Brown will not be allowed to carry or possess firearms. He has also been fined over $3,000 with some of the money going to domestic violence funding.
