NAIROBI; KENYA: The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has named a battery of top lawyers who will seek to overturn Uhuru Kenyatta's victory at the Supreme Court. They face an equally determined adversary.
George Oraro
A soft spoken and politically shy lawyer Oraro is the man behind the actual drafting of the petition. He is known to keep of political sideshows in his cases only dealing with facts and the law.
It's this strategy that saw him win the case for ODM luminary Henry Kosgey before the International Criminal Court in 2011. The court acquitted Mr Kosgey at the Pre-trial stage without committing him to trial. Oraro is renowned for handling complex and high profile commercial and even criminal cases.
Mutula Kilonzo
Currently the Makueni County Senator-elect, he was the MP for Mbooni in the last parliament. Mutula, a first-class law degree holder from Dar es Salaam is one of the greatest legal minds in Kenya. He built his legal career by taking big cases from the government during the Kanu regime.
Amos Wako
He is the immediate Attorney General and now the Busia County senator elect. Wako served as AG for more than 20 years and before then he was heavily involved in human rights campaigns.
James Orengo
He is currently the Siaya County Senator elect and the immediate former Ugenya MP. He is still serving as Lands Minister.
Orengo has a long career in politics and the struggle for reforms that put him on a collision course with the Kanu regime since 1990s. In 2002 Orengo was also a presidential candidate.
Ababu Namwamba
Namwamba is Sports Minister and Bundalangi MP elect. He recaptured the seat which he first won in 2007. Before joining politics Namwamba served in private legal practice. He is presently one of the most active defenders of Raila and Cord Alliance.
Ochieng Oduor
Also one of the prominent lawyers in Kenya Ochieng Oduor is involved in commercial as well as constitutional matters.
