A truck driver of Kenyan origin has been found dead next to his vehicle this evening.
This happened at the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) customs station at Busitema on the Tororo-Iganga highway.
The yet-to-be identified driver was found lifeless by his stationary vehicle.
White in colour, the truck registration number KAT 578T travelling from Kampala was headed to the Uganda-Kenya border.

The road users who witnessed the incident said the driver hurriedly parked by the roadside before disembarking with a mat.

"From a distance, I saw him seemingly in pain, coughing while removing his shirt," said one road user who chose not to be named in this story.

Thereafter, the driver rested on his mat and never woke up.

URA officials attached to Busitema Customs Weigh Bridge said they were tipped off by road users about the incident.
They later called Tororo district Coronavirus taskforce team, informing them of an emergency case.

The Coronavirus rapid response unit arrived shortly and took samples from the body for testing. They also embalmed and took the body for further situational management.

Though truck drivers are always in company of two or more people, it is unclear whether this driver had travelled with other occupants. Some eyewitnesses claim that he had two other colleagues who suddenly disappeared on hearing that Coronavirus medical officers were being called in.

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Health Minister, told New Vision, the ministry had commenced investigation into the development.

"This is slightly strange because all interstate truck drivers are tested and informed of their results before they are allowed into to the country," Aceng said.

The minister called upon the community in Tororo and Uganda at large to remain calm as they "rigorously investigate" the cause of the driver's death.

Cases of truck drivers dying mysteriously while on transit are unheard of in the border district of Tororo.
