The Coronavirus pandemic found the world unprepared and therefore made it hard for countries to respond in a manner to defeat the virus against it's effects. It therefore called for individual countries to make individual decision on how to respond to the spread of the virus.
President Uhuru Kenyatta reacted to the virus by puting stiff measures to the country, which included but not limited to restriction of movement, curfew and partial lockdown to some parts of the country. He, Uhuru, did not consider the reliability of the testing kits and whether or not they would actually give reliable results after testing.
For Magufuli, the Tanzanian President took to check the reliability of the test kits by issuing several non human species for testing, whee he tested animals and plants. To him and the whole of Tanzania, these things tested positive. This made the Tanzanian's President to conclude that the Virus did not necessarily exist in Tanzania, but rather the test kits themselves could be faulty. While the cases continued increasing and increasing in Tanzania, President Magufuli ordered the ministry and the Tanzanian media to stop the daily updates on the state of the virus.
As at the moment, the cases of COVID-19 in Kenya are increasing every day as the curve is reportedly at its pick level. The country is reporting an average of 400 cases per day.
However, the reliability of these cases is under question. 4 days ago, 18 staff members were reported to contract Coronavirus disease at St Andrews Turi International school. The ministry reported this and caused panic to the people of Molo constituency. Three days later, Yesterday, news erupted that the school took to seek for a confirmatory test in another institution, which reported that all the 18 of the staffs were negative after two consecutive tests. The member of parliament of Molo constituency, Hon Kuria Kimani told the public that he would seek for explanation of how this was possible from the ministry of health:
Apart from these, it has been alleged that the tests by the Ministry of health are differing with those of the Kenya Medical and Research Institute (KEMRI)..
This therefore raises the question of whether or not the testing kits are okey, or whether some of the kits are faulty.
The president of Kenya have an existing warning to Kenyans that he issued on 6th July 2020. That he would consider another lockdown without hesitation, should the situation on COVID-19 worsen to a level that the Ministry shall be considered overwhelmed.
However, the president, before making this decision, in my opinion, needs to pay President Magufuli a visit, either physically or virtually and discuss on the situation in Tanzania, which has been a free country amid Coronavirus, and compare the situation with Kenya.
This will help the president to decide on whether or not to believe the current data on Coronavirus or rather needs to do something on the test kits for the benefit of the people of Kenya and their Economy.
COVID-19: Why Uhuru Should Consult Magufuli as Another Lockdown Looms in Kenya
MY TAKE; Hata yeye ni binadamu, kila binadamu aneumbwa na aibu, anajifikiria atamuambia nini Magufuli baada ya kumpakazia, kumdhalisha na kumkebehi kulikofanywa na wakenya dhidi ya Magufuli?
