Railway link in Tanzania

Railway infrastructure in Tanzania.
SENER has signed a contract for the development of construction projects to create the railway link between Dar es Salaam and Morogoro, in Tanzania, a work that the company will carry out as part of an international construction consortium.
Specifically, SENER will be responsible for the basic and detailed engineering of the structures –including 76 bridges and viaducts– as well as of the drainage system and of six stations.

These works are part of the Tanzania Central Corridor (TZCC), which will carry passengers and cargo of up to 35 tons/axle, with an estimated total of 17 million tons per year, and will reach speeds of up to 160 km per hour.

The future rail line, expected for November 2019, will have a single 205-km long international-gauge track with six stations and will run alongside the current decommissioned track. The line will also be electrified and equipped with an ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) level 2.

The ESIA is not a final design document, if you read the same document further, you will find that there is a proposal for an alternative option of re-using the existing transmission lines which are several, the issue is which one.

Please note that Yepi's modus of operandi is design and build, you should have noticed from Geza's and my previous posts, we have highlighted that most of the designed and U/C ATS facilities which are also co-located with substations are very close to the existing transmission line. What TANESCO will do is to build very short feeder lines from the nearby national grid to the substations.

Take a look in the video below:

MINUTE 3:34 - ATS
MINUTE 3:43 -Existing transmission line (on the right hand side of the ATS)
MINUTE 10:48 -Ruvu Station and an existing transmission line (on the right hand side of the station)

Btw, an ATS also acts as a redundant circuit, just incase there are disruptions in the national grid an alternative backup source will be activated effectively immediately...
