Country headed in wrong direction, says new survey

pretty sure now people under poverty line is even higher >50% reason chang'aa dens are on the rise

Thanx for the welcome mkuu,

Just dropped by briefly; for a while at least. ###what do u mean by war zone bro, this place is a perfect description, hehe

I won't defend the duo in wrong doing but i give them credit where they deserve, they are trying despite all da odds.

Secondly, if UK and the man of guts disagree on their 50/50 deal, i lose no sleep. The rest of the republic are even lucky to get an appointment up there.

They however are running the economy with the sensitivity it deserves. more of a hands on approach than what rtd Pres. kibaki did.
For example, they wont allow run away inflation to take root. We had a relatively good one year, lets see what they'll do this year after "settling" as they say. I am optimistic.

Karibu sana ndugu,

When it comes to the economy, pray tell why we gotta pay up on the Anglo-Leasing sh!t yet we
were told, this was a ghost company and no one could be held accountable. Sasa who are we
planning on paying? Why are we paying up? and why is nobody in prison for this mess?

The main architects are still walking around the republic like it wasn't nothing...infact with this
development some are waiting to get paid. This is where I see inflation killing us like the days
when stubborn Moi was orezo.

I like the fact that you are optimisitc...mwenzio hapa I'm cautious tu!...🙂

Seconded!

Phew! Where was I?

The current government deserves an F for their handling of security, a D for the resultant impact on the economy, another F for their failure to appoint in line with the diversity of the country and an F on their handling of corruption and transparency in government. I give them am A on matters related to EAC & another A on China.

Their major failures are quantifiable: insecurity, corruption, cohesion and the economy. These are the main factors fueling the negative perceptions.

Sixty per cent of Kenyans think the country is headed in the wrong direction, according to newly published results of an opinion poll.

This is a waste of time discussing it, it is all bullshit.:A S 13:

I believe Kenya will not go well because:
It has become officially a dictatorship. All dictatorships end up sinking and impoverishing everybody.

The president has ORDERED anglo leasing to be paid without a single arrest of anybody. Because they are his people.
Tender system is dead. All big tenders are awarded at state house to people in favour.

Anyone saying anything negative about the current president is arrested. Compare this with Kibaki Government.

Now elections outcomes are being reversed by judges all over the country but the Supreme court is busy re-instating immediately so that they can support their rulling that elections were free and fair.
Kenyans are being bombed everyday because the security system is bogus. Kenyans can no longer say "see you tomorrow"

They pretended that school was free but look how much parents are paying. shame on the free eductaion program.

Soon school kids will be taking brookeside milk so that the government can pay a big check to the presidents milk plant.

Kenya is quickly bonding with china because china does not care about human rights. Soon the North Korea leader will come to Kenya to advise on total dictatorship. Meanwhile am off to hide.

Mzee Jomo Kenyatta has resurfaced. If am caught writing this I will be hauled to jail. Kindly mods increase our security.

this is expression of opinion is excellent, i hope wakenya we can learn a thing or two in how you do this, your opinion is not targeting to dishonor or engage anyone in hateful exchanges.. naomba our KENYAN GREAT THINKERS can do the same.

though one correction i would like to point out that exonerating kibaki government from the ills that kenya is facing now is premature! the kibaki government media was free and democratic but corruption nayo ilikuwa imeshamiri kweli kweli, chief architects wa angloleasing were concieved from that time, hivi sasa roads are only being built in nyeri and nyeri only as we speak. speaking of unfair awarding of tenders.

right now its a happy thing to see the noose tightened on media houses to be responsible in what they air, they have become objective in their reporting. Their focus and persistence has made kenyans know what was anglo leasing, who was the architect which such information is good for any developing country, whereas in the last regime it remained in the dark. kenyans need to know that their money is safe. they have now known that it is not safe thanks to the media

which one would you choose if you are told to award a tender to phantom projects by the ghosts of angloleasing or award to the chinese who would do everything and eventually deliver the final product?

kenya was not safer either, during the last regime, it can be safer if the security organs can know the 'nature of alshabaab'
the question should be asked

1.is it politicians handling alshabaab, or is there a copy of alshabaab using another names somewhere in kenya?
2 why is alshabaab well coordinated in throwing grenades in kenya and poorly organized in a lawless and less secure place like somalia/Mogadishu?
livefire where at thou? I have mentioned you because at one time in the forum you posted and handled a brief for ole lenku and such answers if not forthcoming now will be imminent in the coming days, if not let him be shown the door!

That Tanzania you talk about grew over 7% while your Kenya hardly reached 4%! And as far as i know Kenya has more people under poverty line > 54% compared to Tanzania around 37%
Ati 54% of Kenyans wanaishi katika hali ya uchochole? Where did u get that erroneous info from bro? It is somewhere between 38% and 44% Hii yako ni kutia tu chumvi ili kuscore points against your opponents.

ex rebel,

I don't associate myself with the Armed Forces of Kenya, either Police or Military, don't know where the perception came from, lol.

Now to attempt answering ua quiz
1. Are politicians aiding or otherwise sponsoring terrorists? Answer is a def no. To be categorical, #OPPOSITION ain't INVOLVED. NSIS monitors them & every move a single one of em makes with a passion.
2. Why is al shabaab organized at throwing grenades?
~we have a large population that's naive, easily lets one go through and without querying. #i don't blame the public, they simply can't do that work.
~the grenades take place in dense population settings, Gikomba, *a guy can walk with a grenade, a bag laddened with IED's n just walk his way out of the mess or vehicle *, seconds later, there is ua explosion. in the confusion, the suspects disappear.
3. Are the west involved? #No ....big NO, silly conspiracy.
4. WHOSE INVOLVED, Radicalized Muslims, Members of the force either retired or current with a reason to go haywire, #simply say Muslims are under attack n u have state trained mercenaries against herself.
~Is al~shabaab active in Kenya? No! Deal with the sympathetic lot, invest in tech, spyware systems that do real time scans on all SMS, Calls, IP connections then maybe you will have your guys.

Eradicating aliens is a good start, they don't pledge allegiance to Kenya..

Is eradicating Ole Lenku the solution, No/Yes. if the next doesn't employ technology we are done n still doomed.

JKUAT has some good hackers, UONtoo but i recommend JKUAT, GoK should just make an effort to hire these men and form an active Cyber Unit, the current one only Jeso anajua, i wonder why these lot has to go to Kiganjo/Embakasi......these are the second breed of policemen we need. Sitting behind comps scouring the Kenyan airwaves (telcos) & net for threats.

CCTV is for bank robbers, not terrorists, they help you but not much unless backed up with an effective cyber unit command.

1. it were better if more was invested on CCTV cameras and adopt good ideas like re-registration of ID more than surveillance and GSM cloning, because there is still satellite COMMS airwaves, The terror that we are facing is meant to create chaos and disruption of daily life within kenyans, rather than following the usual pattern of targeting visitors in hotels from outside, which strongly links to disgruntled politicians. of late terror suspects have come from other areas and not Somalia/mogadishu. the trend is worrying

2. doubts on the nyumba-kumi project have evaporated, after hoping the provincial administration be mobilized effectively but on second thoughts, it just came across to my mind that this might be the thing to avert the current problem we have as a country. my initial fear was it would be disastrous to vest power to a cross-sections of civilians.

4. arrested suspected terrorists be scrutinized and openly profiled and information regarding their links be made available to the public domain, this fight against terrorism is where the role of the public should no longer be underestimated. other ineffective mechanisms should be dropped and investment on them terminated to avoid corruption.

As much as i agree with u on generally everything on u draft, i disagree with u on the below

1. CCTV will act as a deterence to terror

They may help in west gate type of an environment but outside that, its a tall order.

Kenya doesn't have the financial muscle to install thrse gadgets on every corner of the expansive Nairobi city. The govt will deplete the entire defense budget on just one town, There's Mombasa too n its more n more angling towards thika.lol.

Also its worthy to note that CCTV cameras can only capture the person detonating the device, not prevent it, in most cases the terror suspect do conduct their homework well, that's why there's hardly an incident within the CBD.

It however is better than nothing but should not be the prime method of fighting terror. Only for ID purposes.

2. Nyumba kumi initiative

Terror networks in Kenya operate from a different doctrine from that of petty offenders.

Where as the common mugger/robber prefers isolated ranges, the terror suspects operate best in a swarm of people. In Gikomba and the numerous Bus blast, how will one identify the other? They receive customers/passengers/congregation members from all over. Its a tall Order

CONCLUSION: Nyumba kumi fights small fires, not Terror, mark you, these blasts don't target homes/residential places which is weird. Only churches, buses, rallies and market places being the latest victim bear the brunt.

This shows how terror is evolving and whoever is doing this does his homework. Who knows what town is next, Nakuru, Kisumu and eldoret are safe, but for how long?

Recommendations

1. RE~registration....(i concur with you)

2. RE~thinking our ways of policing, Kiganjo/Embakassi need to overhaul their curriculum, Kenya Police is no longer a baton & fire arm march, emerging threats makes it necessary to breed a whole new school of thought that deals with modern warfare, theft, terror and such. IT is a must, build a dedicated college for this.

3. Conduct continuos assessment of the forcess' performance and capabilities' ( failures and successes), Find gaps within the routines and supplement the inadequacies 24/7, 365.

Summary
Before Kenya police asks for civilian help, let their be a will from their top leadership to modernize. Responsibility of security is a state function, KPS need new gears and badly. How does a modern police force lack APCs? Reason they hate going to Turkana, Isiolo, Garrisa and Mandera......... The media just gives the towns blackout.

look at our OWN Recce, its an abuse calling them SWAT, they got kits & skills but no effective vehicles for a Swat equivalent stature. RAIN STARTED BEATING US LONG AGO. The terror menace is as a result of a rigid police mentality & administration that should cease letting out a half baked force, what's a force with no tools of trade? It's modernize and modernize for me. No short cut..

We already lost tourists to neighboring Tz, the force should modernize or else i see no future for our Tourism, its like a foreigner must be touched for Kenya to make a shift.
( rectify typos if any, mobile short comings)

i am impressed by this piece but this is where the police have shot themselves in the foot for a long time. they have turned the anger from their employers to the wrong pple. I agree that there should be no review of increasing police salaries until reforms in the sector are achieved. the kavaludi process should be protected at all costs.

Just the other day i could not be helped to apprehend a thief that i know and see him daily who took my electronic equipment. what is interesting, apprehension is difficult because they could not rely on the words of my mouth and my 'reasoning' and said might meet challenges of burden of proof. now that we are 'Officially' going to nyumba kumi ("civilians owning the process"), roles structures have not been explained

The way forward to deal with terrorism is CCTV surveillance, the success rate of catching a terrorist on the act throwing grenades on CCtv monitor is higher than expecting to thwart their attacks before they happen by monitoring calls. wherever these alshabaabs are transporting and assembling their cargo requires high intelligence.
Much money enough to feed/develop and replenish deserted areas like turkana county for a period of five years has gone out of through corruption in dubious projects like anglo leasing.

The govt has resources to invest in its security personnel and to install cameras all around the country, the only problem that may prevent the projects might be corruption, or populism.

tourism is a foreign exchange earner and we have like sold kenya to the west, why do we seem to be crying about tourists leaving kenya, maybe easternization will fill in the gaps. but despite the cooperation with the west, it has never evolved, the barbarism of their forefathers is an inherent problem even today among their descendant's blood here.(sic). admiration for foreign cultures, and new influences has made it is possible for a kenyan to be hated even in his or her own country. the problem facing tourism can't be solved immediately, tourists from western civilizations will always come back once we get our act together.

Oh! Tea is flopping? no problem increase trade with the eastern blocs. For now let Tanzania and Ethiopia gain mileage from western media type hype, Mekatilili probably this is the break kenya needs to get its act together and restore its former glory ! #Just-sayin'.

Kabaridi,

First apologies for delayed responses, had papers to deal with, as per matters "security", i have given up, we are a clueless nation driven by political machinations/corruption and cremed up with tribal bigotry.

How do u explain an attack such as that at Mpeketoni? THERE PLENTY OF CAMPS AROUND!!!!!!!

I weep for the Kenyan lives lost, but think about it, what if Tourists were involved? After all, its perfectly within tourism active zones, why didn't the police act?

Some reports claim its political, started with west gate, came thru to Gikomba and Thika Road, went thru to the air port, #damn , one thing i will tell u for free bro, we are cooked, with current agencies incompetence we are simply fried.

All policemen reside in suburbs of Kenya, who will take care of the poor man at Gichagi level?

Before going da route of CCTV, moreso with areas such as Mpeketoni, make it a firm policy for every county to have 5000 police men minimum, irrespective of location.

And this forces to have camps in the said counties, (not outside) Mambo ya kupiga simu Nairobi and people are dying ni ujinga mtupu, the police then appear da following day and even then, people still die cause they brought three lorries to patrol a whole county.

And the same CiC is about to ask for tourists/seeking lifting of advisories yet we can't hold our own.

Hii serikali haina nia ya kutunza maisha ya mkenya. For how long man!!!!!!! I would like to know the police count in every county pronto, researching hope i can get it!!!!!!

I tell you we are cooked.

I even dont blame the police, i want to see the govt involved in creating police training camps/settlements in every county....io tu.

After police presence, weka io vitu ya findeo everywhere.

there are over ten thousand policemen that have graduated, where have they gone? so those have graduated can only be deployed to two counties out of 45 counties still need some more.

there are over ten thousand policemen that have graduated, where have they gone? so those have graduated can only be deployed to two counties out of 45 counties still need some more.

Well, rationalize the numbers first with a vision to have a visible force in the ground, is that too complicated mate?

And yes am worked up with the way things are trivialized in Kenya, the police presence is non existent in some counties.

After so many eons clutching to hopes, think my limits burnt up when a genuinely critical, somber situation was trivialized for political rhetoric.

We got police presence in the cities, kule upcountry its sth else, dats y Tana, Bungoma, Isiolo, Mandera, Baringo are always burning.

Simply coz there no men to fight or help during distress. #Mpeketoni exposed dat, we had to ship police all the way from Nairobi!!!!!

Are we serious about giving Kenyans security? There's the will, but nothing tangible to assure the Mpeketonis and likes more so to deter crime.

It seem Mpeketoni and environs had only 10 cops for well over ten hours till Nairobi responded. Hii ni aibu Edzeame. Some things are indefensible
