Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA)

The recent released 2014 Report by ‘the guide to sleeping in airport' has mentioned Julius Nyerere Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam as one among the ten worst airports in Africa based on overall airport experience.

According to the Report, Africa has a reputation for having some of the worst airports on the planet with poor services like dirty floors and bathrooms including bribery incidents.

The survey tasked voters to submit stories relating to unfortunate airport experiences across the continent with regards to their hygienic conditions, and other related issues where travellers were seriously unimpressed with 10 airports in Africa.

It said besides, poor floors, hygienic conditions and bribery, Tanzania travellers also complained about the lack of air conditioning facilities despite the country's high altitude temperatures.

The general transport navigational chaos, limited yet expensive restaurant options and questionable-effective security processes were also among the drawbacks putting the country at unsafe side.

The first worst airport in Africa in the report is Khartoum International Airport, Sudan (KRT), seconded by Kinshasa N'djili International Airport, Democratic Republic of the Congo (FIH), with Tripoli International Airport, Libya (TIP) and Julius Nyerere International Airport, Tanzania (DAR) being in the third and fourth position respectively.

Other airports include, Luanda Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport, Angola (LAD), Port Harcourt International Airport, Nigeria (PHC), Abuja Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Nigeria (ABV).

Also in the list are N'Djamena International Airport, Chad (NDJ), Accra Kotoka International Airport, Ghana (ACC) is and Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Nigeria (LOS).

The report adds that "travelers passing through these airports often prefer to skip the airport sleeping experience altogether and splurge to nearby hotels. Should you be stuck in any of these airports due to delays, bring a whole lot of patience, because you'll need it".

Despite that, the report says Africa still has some best airports if compared to other airport in other regions in terms of comfortability, conveniences, sanitation and customer service.

The top five best airports based on overall airport experience according to the survey include Johannesburg's O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB), Cape Town International Airport (CPT), Durban King Shaka International Airport (DUR) all based in South Africa.

Others include Algiers Houari Boumediene International Airport (ALG) Algeria and Addis Ababa-Bole International Airport, (ADD) in Ethiopia.

It's not surprising at all.
We probably have one of the best VIP lounges in Africa!!

Dar is one of the worst airport..??
I hope this is not news to 'regular' users of the airport like FaizaFoxy and company.
Men..!!! All infrastructures are falling apart in TZ.

Oh God! What are we good at? corruption? porching? I am considering quiting reading such reports! You come across a poverty report, men we are doing far better than others in becoming poorer and poorer everyday

It is quite true .. facility provided at the airport is slow.. the same no of counters for the last ten years.. immigration officer they talk rigid. They do work slowly . They dont have manners to talk with international visitors.. while this tourist country... long queues for visa procedures after ur big tired trip makes it more difficult. A. We hope new airport which is getting built will sure improve service.. and speedy delivery will start..

Tanzania should really work on improving the quality of it's International airports. It's the first thing an international traveler sees and usually is the first impression.

The availability of this information was possible simply because the airport is one of the busiest in Africa based on its size. It would built to carter for 200,000 passengers per year yet now more than a millions fly. Let us wait for a new terminal. Big up CCM and its Government.

Was it too hard for you to write J. K. Nyerere instead of Dar?

Remember; Dar is not an Airport.
