The Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Said Meck Sadick has closed 303 water wells as preventive measure to fight cholera outbreak that continues to ravage several parts of the country.
Speaking to journalists, Sadick said they have destroyed all shallow wells and shut down some of them which were contaminated.
We have supplied water to these areas and to date more than 1,460 wells have been treated to ensure people have access to clean and safe water, he said.
Sadick added that they have introduced a special house to house campaign to educate community members on preventive measures and hygiene issues.
Sadick also reiterated the banning selling of peeled fruits along the streets to control the disease.
Furthermore, he said more than TZS 1.8 billion has been used in on drugs for purifying water, treatment and caring for cholera camps.
Reports show that the outbreak has affected more than 4,202 with 4,144 people treated and discharged.
