On the sidelines of the ongoing TICAD 7 conference in Yokohama, Japan, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting on developing Kenya's economy.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister stated that Japan would continue supporting Kenya's ambition to achieve Universal Health Care through Public-Private Partner.

The two leaders also agreed that with the support of the Japanese Government, Kenya would fast track the commencement of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Dondo Kundu as well as the construction of the Likoni Gate bridge.

Other matters that were discussed during the talks included; regional peace and security, sustainable blue economy and the need to address the trade imbalance between the two countries.

Uhuru noted that the number of Japanese companies set up in Kenya had significantly risen from 41 to 57, citing that it indicated the bilateral ties between Tokyo and Nairobi.
On August 27, 2019, the president left the country to attend the 7th edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7).
The three-day international conference focusing on development in Africa will run until August 30.
Kenya will be seeking to strengthen its bilateral relations as well as consolidate cooperation with Japan, in various sectors of the economy.
Hinged on the theme of “Advancing Africa's Development through People, Technology and Innovation”, TICAD 7 provides an opportunity for Kenya to engage directly with Japanese investors.
The Kenyan delegation to TICAD 7 is also focused on optimizing the resources available in Japan, for the delivery of the Big 4 Agenda.

All these Dongo Kundu Bypass highway, Dongo Kundu Special Economic zone and other Dongo projects won't fool people, that you people in Nairobi have destroyed the coastal people livelihood which depended on the Port of Mombasa operations and send all clearing fowarding,warehouse rents etc to the hinter land called Nairobi dry container port.

Dongo kundu SEZ is 10 times more beneficial than msa port! It will employ 10 times more people than what msa port employs both directly and indirectly...

And BTW, Lamu port will also steal alot of business from mombasa port, should we also stop that project because it will destroy the livelyhoods of the coastal people of Mombasa???

And while your at it, you should probably stop your government from building an SGR to Rwanda cause once that is completed goods that are destined for outside Dar will be directly and immediately be transported out of dar and processed and stored in Moro or makutopora or Kigali ..etc leaving those freight fowaders in Dar with no business and with empty warehouses..
