“I interrogated her and she told me that she had visited Kago and his roommate, but she couldn’t recall what really happened after taking a few drinks. Her eyes were red, she looked confused, devastated and at some point, she almost caused a scene,” added our source, Vincent.

But Kago denied involvement, saying he had just returned from police cells and could not even think of being with another woman.

“I have been through a lot in the past two weeks,” said Kago who was recently locked up for reportedly assaulting his girlfriend.

Streak of bad luck

“These allegations are shocking and I do not know what to say. Unajua masaibu yakianza kukufuata huwa zinakuandama kila mahali (you know when you find yourself in a streak of bad luck, everything just seems to be jinxed). Perhaps it is my turn and I may just have to live with it,” added Kago.

Kago‘s alleged accomplice Jesse Were too denied the allegations.

“My roommate was Humphrey Mieno, whereas Kago was with Ian. I do not know why my name is being dragged into this,” said Were.

“Such a thing did not happen, and if anyone has proof, then let them show me. Kindly investigate and you can as well speak to the woman,” added Were.

Another player who also did not want to be mentioned claimed that many of his colleagues had targeted the young woman who was beautiful and outgoing.

The woman was drunk

“Most of the boys had the woman’s number. She had no problem chatting with various team members. But we were shocked to see her drunk and I remember seeing her talking to one of the strikers as she walked out of the hotel.”

On his part, Dennis ‘The Menace’ Oliech refuted the claims saying:

“Some people out there are interested in a juicy story. Sorry, this time you will not get me. It was not me. My only encounter with the ladies at the reception was whenever I was leaving the hotel room.

Pressed on whether he met the said woman, an irritated Oliech responded by saying: “The hotel had close to four different women at the reception on different shifts and days. I was not the only one who talked with them. I do not know why someone would want to focus on me.”

Players are grownups

Coach Bobby Williamson, while confirming that some players misbehaved in camp, denied that this could have contributed to the Stars’ dismal performance against Zambia. “The issue was brought to my attention by my assistants and that is why I did not field the two players. Dennis denies ever being involved, but these are grownups who are well aware of their actions,” said Bobby.

Taxi ride to lodging

It is alleged that a senior Stars midfielder frequently sneaked out of his hotel room in more than three occasions reportedly to different houses in Lang’ata, Umoja and a popular pub and lodging house in South B.

Julius, a taxi driver in Nairobi West, told The Nairobian that twice he dropped the said player: “On Friday, he called me at around midnight but I couldn’t attend to him since I was on another errand, I asked my friend Jose to drop him,” said Julius.

When contacted by The Nairobian, Mvuli Hotels Sales Manager, Victoria Mwangi said: “We normally give special treatment to the national team as per the agreement with the federation. However, there were reports that some team officials brought in girls. I told the team manager that we would charge for extra guests. The national team knows what really happened and I am not in a position to discuss guest relations with the media,” said Vicky.

Football Kenya Federation’s President Sam Nyamweya on his part said: “This is rubbish that I cannot believe happened. The matter had not been brought to my attention.”
