Eritrea (commented on by Jordan Solomon) and Somalia (commented on by John Hamzawsky) are by no means part of the East African Community.
According to Wikipedia:
The East African Community (EAC) is an intergovernmental organisation composed of six countries in the African Great Lakes region in eastern Africa: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
John Magufuli, the president of Tanzania, is the EAC's chairman.
The organisation was founded in 1967, collapsed in 1977, and revived on 7 July 2000. In 2008, the EAC agreed to an expanded free trade area including the member states of all three organizations.
The EAC is an integral part of the African Economic Community.
The EAC is a potential precursor to the establishment of the East African Federation, a proposed federation of its members into a single sovereign state.
I’d like to make right some important misconceptions about East Africa that I usually read here:
By no means is Islam a problem here. People here simply ignore the religions they don't care about. In fact, Christians are more likely to provoke the Muslims.
Prior to the the return of the EAC, East African people from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda acted like the community existed. They freely moved around.
Kenyans and Rwandese are everywhere in Uganda. I don't have a problem with them. And I know of no one who does.
English is much more fluently spoken than any other language but make no mistake about this, it is no one's first language.
So would I like the East African Federation?
You mean;
Behave in other East African countries like I behave here?
Get a Rwandese girlfriend?
Stronger currency because of the stronger economy that will come with the East African Federation?
Work anywhere around East Africa?
Take on Kenya’s amazing democracy and their beautiful Nairobi as part of my new nation?
Hell yes!
Now my reasons may seem shallow but that's all we'll look at because in all honesty, the East African Community isn't offering us anything that we weren't doing already. Especially with Kenya.
I personally dislike the Idea of Southern Sudan in the EAC. We treat those people like our own but they treat ours like infiltrators.
