Defence assistant minister Joseph Nkaissery is under investigations over his Monday utterances in which he asked 'foreigners' in Kajiado not to vie for top seats during the next elections.
The Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko yesterday asked Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to investigate the utterances made by Nkaissery when addressing residents during a tour of development projects in Ildamatin his Kajiado Central constituency.
Nkasissery said the positions of governor, senate and county women representative seats should be sole preserve of the Maasai community. Other communities living in the constituency could however vie for parliamentary and county ward positions.
"This is a decision I am relaying to all our neighbors with whom we live together. It will not be fair for other communities to wrest power from the indigenous people. The rights of the local people should be respected for the sake of harmony," Nkaissery said
He warned that although Maasai have been perceived as peaceful people, some injustices such as taking away power from them could trigger misunderstandings between the community and perceived outsiders.
" No Maasai has gone to Nyeri or Kisumu to vie for governor or senator seats. Likewise other communities in Kajiado should refrain from seeking those positions to avoid angering the Maasai," Nkaissery said and alleged that Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta's TNA party had "bought all Maasai leaders and made them move from their current parties."
Yesterday, Tobiko asked the police and the NCIC investigate and determine whether Nkaissery's utterances constituted an offense. He asked the police and the NCIC to submit their findings to the DPP's office for direction.
Nkaissery had on Monday last week, called for the sacking, arrest and imprisonment of Cabinet colleague and Embakasi MP Ferdinard Waititu for inciting people to violence by calling for the removal of members of the Maa community from Kayole.Two people died during the riots that fallowed.
At the time, Nkaissery said the law allowed any Kenyan to live anywhere within the country, and the call to "uproot the Maasai" from Nairobi was "terribly bad". Waititu has since been sacked as assistant Water minister and is facing charges in court.
