Back in the day, The "New York king" Notorious Big, said some disrespekful about Bay-area's Emperor, E-40. Apparently, Big had an interview with this magazine, where he was asked to rate Bay-area's rappers/emcees. Big did so, and gave 40 a 0.
There was no internet then, but 40 and his camp got that word, and were upset but they didn't fuss. Little time passed, and Biggie was a booked for a concert in the Northern Cali. The show wasn't promoted, for obvious reasons, so it wasn't full. The few that attended, ended up booing and throwing things at Biggie when he was on stage. After some time, Big couldn't perform anymore, so he had to get off the stage.
Big and his "team" went out the back door to their Limo. The Limo was there, but the driver wasn't. They got in regardless. In no time, they were surrounded by a few armed people wanting to whack Biggie for the comments he had made about 40. The dude that was with Biggie managed to plead with them dudes into letting Biggie talk to 40 man to man, so a call to 40 was made. Biggie apologized and claimed he was drunk and didn't mean that.
After the apology, 40 ordered them dudes to escort Big back to his hotel, and make sure they got to the airport in one piece, cuz "other dudes could've got at them and squeeze a few pieces at Big". Big later on, shouted out 40 on the cover of his album, and they put it all behind.
To this date, 40 still denies having anything to do with the whole saga. Any other typical rapper woulda claimed such creds, even if they weren't really involved, but not 40. He never talked about it anywhere, 'til Biggie's people brought it up. 40 never claimed gang bangin', toughness, or any other sort of violence in his records. Just an entrepreneur who loves to rap.
Now that's some mafia stuff. 40 is that tripple OG.
