East African Roads Authority in the pipeline

..YES. English should be the language of instructions from primary school to university.

..it will be very tough, but the more we delay making that decision the tougher it gets.
Instead of thinking on how to elevate your mother language kiswahili, you still showing how your brain have been damaged by the colonial hangover.

..swahili is not my mother language.

..i have my native language, the first language for me.

..this is not about mother vs colonial language. It is about exposing our sons and daughters to english language which former President Mwinyi said is the " swahili of the world."

..in so doing i believe it will be easy for our ppl to engage the outside world and facilitate an easier transfer of knowledge.

Duuh kumbe wakenya mna chuki kiasi hiki? Eti Tanzania iondolewe.......kesheni mkiomba!
sam999 sawa lakini hata wewe Iconoclastes!!
You clearly took my statement above out of context! I dint say anywhere that Tanzania should be left out of the pact, I simply said it would be difficult for the proposals to proceed seamlessly with both Tanzania and Kenya included in the deal, due to their antagonistic political and economic interests in the region. Therefore it is better for either Kenya or Tanzania, or both to be left out.

These sort of arguments really piss me off. Embracing English or any of the major European or Eastern languages doesnt follow that we are then killing our local languages and cultures. That is a very myopic way to look at this. Such arguments in this age is rather frayed, to be honest with u.
We are in fact enriching our traditional languages and cultures by learning these foreign languages. We need them to interact with the outside world. This has nothing to do with colonialism.

If u hate the western culture that much, u can then as well discard the western education u have thus far acquired, the clothes, the city life, your car (if u own one), television, radio, your phone, your religion..........etc.

am not a fan of this...infact kila mtu angebaki kivyake tu
Even me, nashauri kila mmoja angekuwa na mambo yake kwa sababu naona kuna unyonyaji, wa nchi fulani kuuza bidhaa zake tu nchi nyingine na kujitapa kuwa wana maendeleo. Ila tukiachana nchi ambavyo hazina viwanda zitaendelea sana, maana kwa sasa sioni maendeleo kwenye huu umoja.

..i am 100% with u.

..in Tz the generation that went to schools during colonial time and may be 10 yrs after that is fluent in three languages-- tribal language, swahili, and english.

..but now we have reached a point where a good number of Tanzanians are not proficient even in swahili. And they abhor their tribal languages and english.

The East African Examinations Council existed before the collapse of the original EAC.

How is a language developed out of the interaction between residents of Kenya and Somali coasts with the Arabs centuries back become my mother tongue?
