Lake Retba (Lac Rose) is Senegal's rose(pink) lake. This lake is is seperated from the Atlantic Ocean by only a few narrow dunes. Lake Retba has a very high salt content, it has more salt than the Dead Sea. The lake's pink color comes from a type of bacteria attracted to the lake because of its salt content. The lake is very small in size, it is only 3 square kilometers. On the shores of Lake Retba you will see huge mountains of salt piled on top of each other that sat and collected, Senegal gets lots of its salt from this lac(lake).
