Comedian Eric Omondi is arrested outside Parliament buildings on November 16, 2021.
Controversial Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi was on Tuesday arrested and later released after he attempted to storm Parliament buildings in Nairobi.
The comedian had earlier called on all musicians to join him in storming Parliament at 10am with a list of demands to be presented to their leaders.
Omondi and his troops were however dispersed by police who arrived at the scene and took the comedian into custody in a dramatic arrest.
He was whisked by the officers into a waiting police van, but he attempted to resist and instead jumped onto the roof of the vehicle.
He was later assisted down by the officers who bundled him into the van and drove off, reportedly towards Central Police Station.
The march followed an online debate the self-proclaimed President of Comedy in Africa ignited telling Kenyan musicians to pull up their socks and demand more airplay as well as the same treatment as international artists during concerts.
In the list of demands, the comedian said he wants all local media to give 75 per cent play time priority to local music like in West African countries like Nigeria and Ghana.
In addition, he said that established local musicians should be accorded equal pay and treatment as their international counterparts by promoters and event organizers.
