Police in Morogoro arrested eight farmers after attacking 108 cattle leaving 68 dead owned by pastoral community in Morogoro.
Morogoro regional police commander, Leonard Paul confirmed the incident and said the suspects committed the crime after one of the farmers from Tindiga area, Said Sangida was killed by a group of pastoralists.
"Pastoralists grazed their cows in Sangida's farm and when he tried to chase them, those pastoralists beat him to death," Paul said.
He said police are in Tindiga village to investigate the matter for the suspects to be taken to court.
"I urge farmers and pastoral societies to resolve their disputes through government authorities instead of fighting and killing each other in villages," he said.
Commander Paul said up to Friday, two suspects from pastoral community had been taken to court for that murder case.
For over twenty years there have been conflicts in Morogoro between farmers and pastoral society over land distribution.
