Five airlines express interest in buying majority stake in Kenya Airways

Five airlines have expressed interest in buying a majority stake in the cash-strapped national carrier Kenya Airways.

In the meantime, A senior official said the government would restructure the airline to turn around its fortunes before bids to buy it could be considered.

Aviation sources say Qatar Airways is one of those that have expressed interest in KQ because it wants to use the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport hub to solidify its operations in Africa.

Others said to have expressed interest in the national carrier are Abu Dhabis’s Etihad Airlines, Oman Air and US-based Omni Air.

Alarm bells started ringing in the aviation industry in March, 2015 when KQ announced a loss of Sh28 billion.

Hahaha geza I know you thought itaanguka Hahaha

Nakwambia mpaka 2030---2063----2070 mtakuwa hapa mkikazana na yenu KQ itakuwa imara........ Hahaha.... Etihad should get it....... So that they restructure it and make it profitable like their own..... Africa has no major airlines that make huge profits but Etihad could just make KQ the PRIDE OF AFRICA!!!

kama ni ku sell stake basi waondoe KLM alafu hizo shares ndo wauzie more profitable airlines like Qatar and Ethihad...

anyway, kama mulikuwa mumepost hii habari coz ni mbaya...all I see here os that all major airlines want to have a solid base in jkia hapa EA..si Ethiopia wala JNIA.

Turkish airways imeshajenga thier own premium private lounge in jkia to cater for its passengers and other premuim star alliance persengers........now thats what you call bieng a hub

More premium lounges for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport

Eti jnia..that slum of an airport...😀

Geza Ulole, they know who the big boys are in African aviation, and big boys play with other big boys

And the govt has its not selling its stake any soon.

Kafrican, those middle eastern giants want a majority stake in KQ
parliament made it clear that they want govt to have an even bigger controlling stake, so thats not gonna happen since any major decision abt a national parastatle will have to go through them

but this is business, its all about negotiation. ...... just like for a while after KLM bought a stake in KQ, even thou the govt had a majority stake, it chose not to exercize its powers, instead it let KLM use their experience to turn around KQ in the 80s.... we can negotiate for a win win deal and stil maintain a majority stake

then none of middleeastern airline will buy KQ! Forget that!

you sound like a kid that believes if they wish or deny something had enough in their mind then it wont happen. ....... then they are forced to grow up and realise the world isn't fare and cant be controlled by wishfull thoughts.
don't you just wish they could acquire a stake and revive your non-existant air tz so you can have a face in the least
