The Police Force here is holding five people on suspicions of taking part in the recent murder of Yohana Bahati, a one-year-old minor with albinism kidnapped from her mother, Esther Jonas, who was carrying him on February 15, this year.

The incident which attracted the attention of both local and international media occurred at Ilelema Village in Chato District, Geita Region.

Briefing journalists yesterday, Geita regional police commander Joseph Konyo confirmed the arrest, saying following a manhunt they had launched shortly after the incident, they arrested three people who eventually facilitated the arrest of the other two.

He named the three suspects as two 38-year-old men, one being a resident of Mapinduzi suburb as well as a 70-year-old man.

"We have arraigned the three suspects today," said the police boss.

Mr Konyo said after questioning the suspects, two among them admitted that they once engaged in mining activities with the help of potions from witchdoctors.

He added: "The investigation regarding the other two suspects is on and we will take them to court as soon as we finalise our work."

The regional police chief, however, said their work to search for more suspects would still go on until when the organs that were lost were recovered and everybody who took part in the murder was arrested.

He also urged wananchi to continue cooperating with the police in efforts to end the killings.

"We have formed teams of spies starting from ward level who are now on duty searching for perpetrators of albino killings in our streets," said regional police commander .
