Personal Ethics
Personal ethics is your individual understanding of right and wrong. Everyone will look at the same situation with slightly different eyes depending on his or her personal ethics. Morals are not enough .When you have ethics, you know the right thing to do, and you do it.
Honesty Pays
Business managers do not want to spend time and money monitoring the behaviour of their employees. They need to trust that their employees will behave honestly and ethically. To succeed in business you need to be trustworthy and reliable. This means you tell the truth and do not lie, cheat or steal. You can demonstrate your personal ethics by being honest both on the job and in your job.
Being honest on the job means

  • Using company resources such as phone lines, faxes and e-mails for business only.
  • Putting only genuine business expenses on company credit cards and expense report.
  • Being truthful about the hours you work when filling time-sheet
  • Being truthful about absences due to illness
  • Being truthful about your past employment history and or criminal records.
Being honest in your job means

  • Turning in and taking credit for only your own work
  • Not lying or manipulating facts for your own purposes
  • Keeping confidential documents and information private.
  • Being honest about your colleagues when reporting to supervisors.
  • Using legal and genuine information and services to do your work.

Dishonest employees can cost companies a lot of money. Long-distance calls and office supplies add up. Honest employees know this and do not misuse the resources their employers provide to help them do their job. Successful professionals are honest and can be trusted to use company money wisely.
