Nico Rosberg: Lewis Hamilton says there will be no retaliation


Lewis Hamilton has promised not to retaliate against team-mate Nico Rosberg at the Italian Grand Prix.
The German driver will not face disciplinary action from Formula 1 governing body the FIA over his crash with Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton claimed Rosberg admitted in a team meeting to causing the incident on the second lap at the Belgian Grand Prix "on purpose".
Rosberg has disputed that but the FIA will not get involved in the situation.
Now Hamilton, 29, has said: "I will always put the team first and I won't take anything into my own hands.
"The weekend was damaging. I don't know how I'm going to get back those 29 points, but what I do know is I've a great group of people behind me.
"The poor guys on my side of the garage have had quite a lot of bad races."
Hamilton said he would "have to make sure we're not racing wheel-to-wheel" to try and avoid any potential further conflict with championship leader Rosberg.
 


Rosberg is now 29 points ahead of Hamilton with 200 still available in the remaining seven races

Former Formula 1 driver Mark Webber has questioned whether Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg can remain team-mates at Mercedes.
The simmering tension between the title contenders became public when they collided at the Belgian Grand Prix.
Webber, who had a bitter intra-team fight with Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel, said: "It's going to be interesting, not just for the rest of the year.
"At the moment it's not a team. Is it OK to have them together in 2015?"

He added: "It looks like the drivers are doing their own thing. Can they drive together in the future?"
Webber, who quit F1 at the end of last season for a career in endurance racing, said Mercedes were in a "very difficult situation where the drivers are not enjoying a good relationship".
Talking to Red Bull sports show Sport und Talk, the Australian added that he was not sure whether Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff and the team's non-executive chairman Niki Lauda would be able to solve the situation.
"The thing is, who is now going to try to put this back together?" Webber said. "Is it the people who pay Niki's and Toto's wages?
"Because at the end of the day, if the drivers are not listening to these guys, do they have to say 'Lewis and Nico, you go chat to the big guys at Mercedes, because they're paying you guys to get the job done in a team environment'?"

Webber questioned Rosberg's motivation in the incident, which occurred when the Mercedes drivers were contesting the lead on lap two at Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday.
The collision left Briton Hamilton with a puncture that ultimately ended his race and Rosberg with a damaged front wing from which he fought back to gain second place behind Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo.
"Well, it's... a passing move," Webber said. "Nico is trying to have a look on the outside, but it's Lewis's corner.
"At this point [just before the contact] Nico knows he has no chance to get the move done. It's strange that he tried to come in so tight behind Lewis.

The collision effectively ended Hamilton's chances of getting anything out of the race

"That was a little bit uncharacteristic of Nico - not normally his style, but he made contact.
"It wouldn't have been a big deal at all. It would have been nothing if there was no puncture, but the puncture changed the whole race. In the end both of their races were in trouble."
The result leaves Rosberg 29 points ahead of Hamilton in the championship with 200 still available in the remaining seven races.
Ricciardo's second win in succession means he is only 36 points behind Hamilton, but Webber played down the chances of the Australian challenging for the title.


Eddie Jordan: 'War declared' at Mercedes

"Mercedes will really need to implode for Daniel to take the championship," Webber said.
He added that Rosberg and Hamilton would be focusing only on their own private battle at the next race in Monza on 5-7 September.
"Let me tell you, when they get to the track, they'll only be thinking about each other. There's no-one else really in the race," Webber said.
"They are really only focused on beating each other and that's what happens when you have a car that is so dominant.
"They are going to win the constructors' [title] easy, so the drivers know that the constructors' is done, so all that's left is the drivers' championship."

Honda open to supplying F1 engines to customer teams from 2016


Honda is open to supplying customer teams in Formula 1 from 2016, after confirming its partnership with McLaren is exclusive for just one season.

The Japanese manufacturer is returning to F1 for the first time since 2008, having been attracted back thanks to the introduction of the new turbo V6 engines.

Honda's deal with McLaren has guaranteed the Woking-based team exclusivity of the power units for the first season, and its motorsport chief Yasuhisa Arai has clarified plans for 2016 and beyond.

"In 2015 we don't have the plan to supply any team other than McLaren," he said in an interview with the official F1 website.

"In 2016 or after, if some teams or partners ask us to supply them too, we will take a look at that situation.

"But even in 2016, McLaren will be our main partner in F1.

"And even if we supply other teams from 2016 onwards our main focus will always be to win - to make the engine better through more data - and not necessarily to look at a return on investment. If you win that comes automatically."

Arai is adamant that Honda's development plans for next year are on course, and that he fully expects it to be winning races from the off.

"Formula 1 is a very important part of our strategy - and winning is very important for Honda," he said.

"We want to raise the awareness of our brand and I trust - I am a firm believer - that we will win races next year."

NO PLANS FOR ABU DHABI TEST

McLaren had been looking at the possibility of giving the new Honda engine a first run in its car at the post-season Abu Dhabi test this year.

However, Arai says that there are no plans for it to hit the track until the first tests of next year.

"In the next couple of weeks we will run simulations and at the beginning of next year we will start to run on the track - very likely at Jerez," he said.

"That will very likely be the first time to show the whole car, the Honda engine and the McLaren chassis - the Honda McLaren.

"Right now there are no plans to collect data during the rest of 2014. Jerez will be the first time."

Lewis Hamilton tops Italian practice after Rosberg gearbox issue

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton beat Ferrari's Fernando Alonso in final practice at the Italian Grand Prix as Nico Rosberg hit trouble.
Hamilton's team-mate and title rival suffered a gearbox problem that meant he missed almost the entire session.
Mercedes executive technical director Paddy Lowe said he was confident the German would not suffer a five-place grid penalty for changing his gearbox.
Rosberg currently leads Hamilton by 29 points in the drivers' title.
Hamilton, who had his own problems on Friday, was 0.412secs clear of Alonso.


Italian GP practice: Inside F1 at Monza

Ferrari's pace was impressive and unexpected - the Spaniard himself had said heading into the race this would be one of the team's most difficult races of the season because of the long straights at Monza.
Alonso's time came on a lap that was beautiful in its controlled aggression, balance and delicacy, the Ferrari drifting through Lesmo 1, and flirting with a penalty by running right out to the allowed limit through the iconic final corner, Parabolica.
Hamilton appeared controlled and comfortable, but needed a second lap on the faster medium tyres to set his quickest time, and beat the lap he set earlier on the slower hard tyre, which was itself 0.189secs quicker than Alonso's best time.
"Lewis had a good run on the prime and the option tyres so we're reasonably confident we can have a good result this afternoon," Lowe said.

Alonso was out of his car before the end of the session and was embraced in the Ferrari garage by the company's president Luca Di Montezemolo, whose future is the subject of intense speculation.
The Italian media is reporting that Di Montezemolo, who has led Ferrari since 1991, is to leave his post to run the airline Alitalia.
But even that scenario is overshadowed by the continuing tension at Mercedes, following Rosberg's apology for colliding with Hamilton at the last race in Belgium.
Mercedes have told both drivers that they can continue to race freely but must not collide, and have been warned by team boss Toto Wolff that if they cannot be managed they could be sacked.
Both drivers have now lost time this weekend - Hamilton lost two-thirds of Friday's second session with an electronics problem and Rosberg a similar amount of time with the gearbox electronics issue on Saturday morning.
Lowe said it was difficult to say which driver would be most affected by the lost time, but added: "Probably today is slightly more damaging than yesterday."


The magic of Monza: Italian GP preview

Williams driver Valtteri Bottas was third, 0.571secs behind Hamilton, followed by team-mate Felipe Massa, McLaren's Jenson Button, Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.
The two Ferraris in second and seventh places were separated by just 0.4secs. "It's very close, isn't it?" said Williams chief technical officer Pat Symonds. "We expected to be competitive here."
Symonds said he did not think Williams could beat the Mercedes in qualifying. "We're shooting for the second row," he said.

The tensions between title rivals Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg could result in one of them leaving Mercedes at the end of this season, Ron Dennis says.
McLaren's chairman, who says his team are some way from finalising their own driver line-up, has experienced similar battles between team-mates in the past.
"No-one could have predicted the tension within Mercedes-Benz," he said.
"We can imagine a range of scenarios that could see one of their drivers on the market by the end of the year."


Rosberg clips Hamilton in Belgian GP

Hamilton, 29, and current championship leader Rosberg, who go into Sunday's Italian Grand Prix separated by 29 points, collided at the Belgian GP two weeks ago.
They have since been warned by Mercedes boss Toto Wolff that the team would have to consider changing their driver line-up "if we are not able to manage the two of them following the Mercedes-Benz racing spirit".
Rosberg has recently extended his contract for a further two years, with an option for more, while Hamilton has another year on his to run and is keen to extend it.
Dennis said that if Hamilton or Rosberg, 29, were to become available "that does not mean we would automatically reach for that driver, or any other driver, in preference to what we have".

With seven more races to go this season, Hamilton cannot afford further non-scoring finishes

He refused to confirm McLaren's interest in Fernando Alonso, or comment on the admiration he expressed at the beginning of the season for Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel.
Both scenarios mean the futures of the current McLaren drivers, Britain's Jenson Button, 34, and Denmark's Kevin Magnussen, 21, are in doubt.
Dennis said: "You can go back and see it constantly repeated over the years; we always have the best available drivers.
"So the first thing you have to establish - and it is not at all derogatory, detrimental or negative to your existing drivers - is who is available."
He said the team's change to Honda engines next year meant keeping the same drivers could be appealing.
"That's because stability, as we go into the relationship with Honda, and in-depth understanding of the entire plan, has a huge value, and loyalty is very important to me too," Dennis said.
Dennis said McLaren's decision "won't be in the next few days, and it won't be at the end of the season, it will be something in between".
Both Mercedes drivers are under contract for 2015. Hamilton's deal runs out at the end of next season, and Rosberg has extended his until at least the end of 2016.
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said he expected all the top teams would keep the same driver line-up in 2015.
"I'd be surprised if there was any movement," Horner said.

Nico Rosberg has attempted to bury the hatchet with Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton ahead of the resumption of the Formula 1 season after accepting the blame for the pair's collision at the Belgian Grand Prix
A collision on the second lap in Spa forced Hamilton to retire while Rosberg finished second behind Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo to extend his drivers' championship lead to 29 points.
Hamilton accused his Mercedes colleague of having deliberately crashed into him and even though the German had previously refused to admit his responsibility has now apologised to his British teammate ahead of this weekend's Italian Grand Prix.
"I took a lot of time to reflect on the events of the weekend – and we met as a team to discuss it last Friday, too. I analysed the whole situation in a lot of detail and reached the conclusion that I had to take responsibility for what happened because it was my error of judgement," Rosberg said.
"It didn't matter what part of right and wrong was involved, the fact is that it happened and I did not do a good enough job to avoid a collision between our two cars."

Mercedes have reprimanded Rosburg though have not disclosed the nature of punishment, but rhe 29 year old has revealed he has received a personal apology from team advisor Niki Lauda, who blamed the German for the incident after the race.
"The result enabled me to extend my lead in the championship, but when I left the circuit I hadn't really thought about that. I was concerned and distraught about the situation; one thing is for sure: I wasn't happy," Rosberg added.
"I was instead thinking about the criticism - the way Niki Lauda, for example, had been critical about my driving. Niki has since apologised for what he said and, in the heat of the moment you often say things that you regret - that has happened to all of us."
