Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says protestors taking part in the anti-government demonstrations are the ones inviting the police to take them head-on in the streets.

According to DP Gachagua, if nobody takes to the streets to picket, then the police would stay in their stations and would not have to engage them in running battles.

He went ahead to urge the security officers to stay put and not be bothered by criticism from the opposition.

"You cannot go to the streets destroying property and expect police to come kiss you," said the DP when he accompanied President William Ruto on a tour of Murang’a on Friday.

Gachagua further claimed that the opposition Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga is playing politics of blackmail as he allegedly seeks to join the government through the backdoor.

The country’s second-in-commander however reiterated his previous remarks, firmly stating that this will not happen on his watch.

"The only route to get to the government is through election which we did last year and he (Odinga) should wait for the next election," said Gachagua.

President Ruto, on his part, also stated that nobody will be allowed to perpetrate impunity in the country.

"Nobody will be allowed to go against the law, irrespective of who you are, the authority you think you have, or the power you imagine you have," he said.

"We promised the country that we will make sure that the firm foundation of the rule of law is found to determine how we go forward as the country.”
