Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria wants the woman representative position scrapped and the number of governors reduced from 47 to 18.
The lawmaker, who spoke at Kenol market during a fundraiser for the Africa Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa, also wants the Senate abolished in a bid to reduce the Government wage bill.
In his radical proposals, Mr Kuria wants some counties merged. He said the National Assembly, which has 349 members, should have a maximum of 200 legislators.
Duplication of roles The legislator said Murang'a, Kiambu, Kirinyaga and Nyeri counties have similar issues and should be merged.
"We need a national referendum to help reduce the Government wage bill as the role played by the Senate is a duplication of what is done by the National Assembly," said Kuria.
He said some roles assigned to woman representatives are better handled by MPs who represent constituencies.
"There is need for a national referendum to close down some of these offices to reduce the wage bill," he said. He said the majority of MPs do not know one another thus there is confusion in the National Assembly.
He urged his colleagues in Mt Kenya to work towards educating the youth on the need to register as voters.
