Population: 855,399 (2009)

Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok is the new Council of Governors chairman.

Mr Nanok takes over from his Meru counterpart Peter Munya whose term has expired.

Mr Munya was elected in 2015 and deputised by Mr John Mruttu (Taita Taveta), who has been re-elected.

Mr Nanok, who was elected unanimously during a meeting of governors in Nairobi, promised to strive in pushing the devolution agenda forward and protecting the gains made so far.

"While we’ve made some progress, we are going to push hard and aggressively move things forward. I will do all that is within my power to push the devolution agenda forward," he said.

He hailed the work of his predecessors as exemplary.

The first chairman was Mr Isaac Ruto (Bomet). The team comprises governors of all 47 counties and the tenure is two terms of one year each.
