Tanzanian police dispatched a special team to Arusha Sunday (June 16th) to investigate the bombing at an opposition campaign rally Saturday that killed two people and injured at least 59, Tanzania's The Citizen reported.
By-elections scheduled for Sunday were postponed for two weeks and the Tanzania People's Defence Force has been deployed to the area to keep calm.
Initial investigations suggest that the explosion was caused by a hand grenade, said Home Affairs Minister Emmanuel Nchimbi after visiting Arusha. Police said they were pursuing the attackers and asked Arusha residents to provide any helpful information.
The Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA) opposition party, whose rally was targeted, has called on its lawmakers to sit out parliamentary sessions this week to attend a mourning camp at the Arusha International Conference Centre in Soweto.

friends what is happening to our EAC region, there seem to be a bigger problem, This used to happen in nairobi, wakati huu hata siamini macho yangu. mwenyezi mungu atuokoe. hali ya usalama arusha ni teh teh au ni mvutano upi huu? there was so much hope vested by investors on the EAC economy, looks like there is currently no where to turn. if it is not resolved fast, what does this mean to the EA economy and investments

I said before that terrorism is a regional problem which we must all join hands in fighting. The sooner we realize this the better, we cannot continue burying our heads in the sand and assuming that these problem will not reach some of us just because we have remained peaceful this far. The fact that there is an Al-Qaeda affiliate next door in Somalia should be enough to inspire us into action.
