help on how to collect research data

Sorry members,
Am in serious need of help on how to collect research data from the field because i know nothing on that and am supposed to do that. please i ask for a very serious help on that from anyone who is familiar with such things.
i will be thankful for any citation or idea that may help me to accomplish that task.
