Reports: Lazio boss Inzaghi considering approach from AC Milan
By Oliver Fisher - May 22, 2019

Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi is considering an approach from AC Milan to replace Gennaro Gattuso as head coach, a report claims.

Speculation has been rife that the Rossoneri will sack Gattuso at the end of the season in the event a top four finish is not achieved, while he could even apparently leave regardless.

However, both il Corriere della Sera and La Gazzetta dello Sport are claiming that the Lazio boss has received a call from Milan to enquire about whether he would be interested in moving to San Siro.

The Aquile though for their part are determined to keep hold of their manager and have proposed a new deal which would see his pay rise from €1.2m to €1.8m per year.

Inzaghi has taken charge of 120 Serie A games while at Lazio – winning 63, drawing 24 and losing 33.

The tension is growing at Inter with the Ultras of the Nerazzurri who have shared an official announcement on their Facebook page. The Serie A giants have yet to wrap up a Champions League placement and the last home game against Empoli will be vital: "No surrender, no forgiveness. We are going to support you for 90 minutes like in Madrid but at the end there will be celebrations or there will be a war. We support the dressing room's decision of isolating the number 9. The most important thing is to defend the whole group but now it's time for everybody to take his responsibilities and prove that they are all working for Inter's good. If we don't qualify for Champions League we'll ask to remove Icardi and all the other responsible of the failure. Show us we did the right choice!"

Serie A giants Inter Milan and AC Milan are likely to have different paths, once the Super League comes into the picture.

Corriere della Sera state that the Super League is likely to start off in the summer of 2024 and will involve the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, La Liga and the Ligue 1 and the top teams from there.

The report states that the format will follow an American model and will have eight teams in four groups rather than vice versa- as it is in the UEFA Champions League.
But Inter could risk being out of the competition if they fail to qualify for it in the 2023-24 by whatever the qualification process turns out to be. But due to AC Milan's rich Champions League history, the rossoneri are likely to gain a direct qualification to the competition even if they don't directly qualify.

The next meeting to discuss more about the competition will be held from the 3rd to the 5th of June. And yesterday, Juventus president Andrea Agnelli was in Germany to talk to representatives of German clubs such that they are convinced to join the league because they are not as ready as the other giants.

Enzo Montepaone, the agent of Milan midfielder Luca Biglia has been speaking to MilanNews.it about the Argentine's future at the club. He said "Biglia is very well physically and wants to stay at Milan. It has been a difficult year with the injuries, but he has a great desire to help the club qualify for the Champions League." In reference to offers from abroad, Montepaone said "At the moment we think about Milan and the final game of the season, so everything else is on hold. He (Biglia), has a strong bond with the team, wants the Champions League, and then we will see, because there are so many things we don't know yet, and one day we will know..."

AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piątek can claim another piece of history when AC Milan face SPAL on the last day of the Serie A.

Piatek is already the top scorer for two clubs this season- Genoa and the rossoneri. He has scored nine times for Milan so far, ever since he arrived in the winter. He scored 13 times for Genoa.

If he does score against SPAL though, he will be the first player in history to reach double figures for two different clubs in one single season.

AC Milan have put all of their negotiations on hold, not only because of UEFA and FFP, but also because their sporting director Leonardo could leave at the end of the season. In fact, three negotiations in particular are dependent on Leonardo: namely the ones regarding Saint-Maximin (Nice), Everton (Gremio) and Sensi (Sassuolo)

he final game of the season is here and Milan’s Champions League hopes are riding on it, plus others. Gattuso’s future is questioned, as is the management. They are in a strange spot but have to focus on the task at hand, SPAL.

Milan must get a result, and either Atalanta or Inter must lose. Should the Rossoneri win, then the other teams simply need to drop points in order for Gattuso’s men to go qualify for Champions League.

The only instance that a win is not needed for the Rossoneri is an Atalanta loss and a Milan draw – with Inter picking up points as well. The odds are stacked against the San Siro side, in other words.

TEAM NEWS

Gennaro Gattuso insists he was “never told Milan were obliged to qualify for the Champions League, I was just asked to try and that’s what we’re doing.”

The Rossoneri know their top four status is not only in their hands, as they sit one point behind Atalanta and Inter.

“I know SPAL well, as the core of the team was already there when I was against them in Serie C. Every year, Leonardo Semplici improves his squad and we’ve got to be wary, as they play very good football with Manuel Lazzari and Mohamed Fares on the wings particularly dangerous.
“We must do our duty, battle for the victory, and then see what happens at the final whistle,” said the Coach in his Press conference.
“At the end, I will embrace everyone, because I owe a lot to this group of players. We are missing the icing on the cake, but I have only positive words for them this season. There is a lot at stake tomorrow and we’ll fight for it together.”
Gattuso was asked about his own future, as it’s reported he could be sacked even if Milan finish in the top four.
“Training Milan is a dream. It has been difficult and I hope to continue experiencing it. It’s been an honour and I want to carry on in this role for as long as possible.
“I said fifth place would not be a failure because if we look at the statistics, we’ve picked up more points than over the last few years. We had a lot of problems and always got through them. On paper, there were teams that were better equipped than us and yet we are in front of them in the table. It’s true, we wasted some opportunities, but it’s not a total write-off.
“Besides, nobody at this club has ever told me we are obliged to qualify for the Champions League. I was asked to try and that is what we are doing, going into the final round with a good chance.
“I’d do it all again, the bad and the good, because I am spontaneous and not a calculator. I’m sure I made mistakes, I am the first to want the bar raised, but it was in the moments of calm, when we should’ve been confident, that we slipped up. That’s a pity. It angers me that we needed to be woken up before we’d react.
“Considering the team we have, we’d need a little more experience and sense of responsibility. I believe that’s what we need to look for in future and I’ve said it before.”
Rino was asked what he would sacrifice or pledge to ensure Milan get fourth place.

“I might shave my beard, as I’ve had that for 10 years. We’ll see. I don’t know if I’ve changed this year, other than looking a lot older. I was more furious at the start of my career and would go around punching holes in walls, but I’ve improved a lot and the players have helped me to calm down.”
Milan have decided not to offer new contracts to Ignazio Abate and Cristian Zapata.

“These decisions were made by the club and are to be respected. I was amazed by how well Abate did as a centre-back. He was fantastic in that role, even though it took us a while to convince him to try it.
“Unfortunately, we missed Hakan Calhanoglu’s quality this season, as with his ballistic capabilities, he could’ve scored seven or eight goals.”
At the end of the Press conference, Gattuso was thanked by the reporters for his honesty throughout the year.
“Sorry if I lost my temper at times, but that’s part of my personality. I thank you all for your professionalism. You wrote some rubbish at times, but that’s part of the job!

“These have been difficult months, but this is a team that is difficult to explain, above all for someone like me who played here for many years. It has been a dream to be the Coach and I hope to continue in this role for a long time.

“The thing that annoys me the most is that we made it look like 65 points with a game still to be played was normal, to be expected and just the average. I keep reading people say the squad is useless, but that’s not how I see it.

“This was not guaranteed at all. The team did all it could to stay clinging on to the Champions League places and we’ll see at the end of tomorrow’s game who is there and who climbs on to the Milan train. Trust me, if I see some of you on our train, I will kick you off it!”

Rossoneri CEO Ivan Gazidis has met with Massimiliano Allegri to discuss his possible return at AC Milan. Allegri will leave Juventus at the end of the season.

The sudden announcement that Massimiliano Allegri will no longer be Juventus’ coach for next season surprised football fans and risks causing a ripple effect in the position of many Serie A coaches this summer.

With Juventus in search of a new coach and Allegri available for a new project, this summer is expected to be very rich in coaches transfers. The most sensational could be the return of Massimiliano Allegri to AC Milan. After various rumors, Tuttomercatoweb reports on a recent meting between Ivan Gazidis and Allegri. The AC Milan CEO has inquired about the availability of the Italian to return at the Rossoneri after a 4 year experience between 2010 and 2014.

According to reports, Allegri has not closed the door on a possible return to Milan. Regardless of qualification in Champions League at the end of this season, difficult but still possible. The Italian manager has required a clear project, with important investments on the transfer market, that would allow Milan to return among Europe’s best clubs in a short time.

At the moment, the chances that Allegri takes charge of a top club are limited to only two: PSG and Bayern Munich. However, the French and the German champions are more likely to continue with their current coaches. In addition, the former midfielder would not mind staying in Italy.

During Allegri’s time at San Siro, AC Milan won their last Serie A title and an Italian Super Cup trophy. Coach Massimiliano Allegri managed to get the best out of some young players including Stephan El Shaarawy, Mattia De Sciglio and Mario Balotelli. However, he drew heavy criticism for his decision to sell veteran deep-lying playmaker Andrea Pirlo to Juventus.

Gattuso: “We signed them because their clubs owed us money”

Posted on May 27, 2019 by Rossonero

The only reason why AC Milan signed Castillejo and Laxal is because their clubs owed money to the Rossoneri claims coach Gennaro Gattuso.

Yesterday’s 3-2 victory against Spal is certainly the saddest triumph of the season. Until the 80-th minute, the Rossoneri were very close to Champions League qualification but a goal from Nainggolan left Milan once again out of the most prestigious European competition.

The disappointment was obvious in the faces of the players and coach Gennaro Gattuso. Atalanta and Inter overtook the Rossoneri in the Champions race with just one point of difference in the Serie A standings.

After the match, coach Gennaro Gattuso explained the reason behind some surprising signings last summer: “Many transfers were made only because some clubs owed money to us. Without taking anything away from Laxalt and Castillejo. We had problems with UEFA and we had to deal with this too. UEFA doesn’t allows us any kind of operations now“.

Indeed much more was expected from Samuel Castillejo. The 24 year old Spanish winger was never able to challenge Suso’s starting status on the right or even Calhanoglu on the left. At times, he showed glimpses of his talent but only 4 goals in 40 appearances is a disappointing figure. AC Milan signed Castillejo for 18 million euros plus the services of Carlos Bacca. The future of the former Villarreal is already in doubt with Sevilla ready to take him back to Spain.
Diego Laxalt on the other hand was a total flop. Ricardo Rodriguez was AC Milan regular starter on the left with Ivan Strinic projected as his substitute. A serious heart problem of the Croatian forced Milan to bring in a new left back. AC Milan paid Genoa 18 million euros for the services of Laxal. The Uruguayan has almost never justified the important figure Milan invented in him.

Gattuso step down as Milan Coach

Gennaro Gattuso has announced he is leaving his role as AC Milan head coach.
The Rossoneri missed out on Champions League qualification on Sunday despite a season-ending 3-2 victory against SPAL.
And former Milan midfielder Gattuso, whose contract runs until 2021, has confirmed he is leaving the club and will not be taking any compensation.
"Deciding to leave Milan's bench is not easy but it's a decision I had to make," he said, according to Italian newspaper Repubblica.
"There was not a precise moment in which I decided, it was the sum of these 18 months as coach of a team that for me will never be like the others. Months that I lived with great passion, unforgettable months.
"Mine is a painful but thoughtful choice.
"Am I giving up a two-year contract? Yes, because my story with Milan can never be a question of money."
Gattuso took the role in November 2017 after a spell as youth-team coach.
Milan's fifth-placed finish in Serie A this season was their highest since the 2012/13 campaign.

CM: Paolo Maldini to deal with Suso’s future as first job
By Ivan Stoev - June 3, 2019

Paolo Maldini’s first job, should he accept a role as technical director, will reportedly be to resolve the future of Suso.

While it is not yet official, Maldini will most likely be the man to replace Leonardo, who departed last week following failure to qualify for the Champions League.

According to Calciomercato.com, the first issue that the former Rossoneri No.3 will have to work out is the future of a key offensive player in Suso.

The Spaniard has a contract valid till 2022, but Milan would like to remove his €38million release clause, and Maldini will start working on that as soon as possible.

While Suso did not have an excellent second half of the season, his first half was magnificent and should he find his consistency a world class player will be in the making.

Possible solutions including making the release clause higher or removing it completely, but with that would likely come the demand of a pay rise.
