AC Milan have an advantage in the race to land Atalanta-owned midfielder Matteo Pessina this summer, according to a report.

Pessina left Milan for Bergamo in 2017 as a counterpart in the deal which saw Andrea Conti come the other way, and the 23-year-old is now starting to shine having joined Hellas Verona last summer on loan with option to buy.

Gianluca Di Marzio recently reported (via MilanNews) that probable new Milan boss Ralf Rangnick scouted Pessina in the recent match between Hellas Verona and Inter to see if he could be useful for next season.

Friday’s edition of newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) reads as follows: “Atalanta, Roma or Milan? For the Rossoneri the cost is half.”

Among the hypotheses they discuss, there is also the possibility of a return to the Rossoneri. Three summers ago when Milan sold the young midfielder to Atalanta, the club secured a clause meaning they get 50% of any resale, so in theory they could land the Hellas star for half of what the competition could.

One of the players who has exploded recently in terms of form is Franck Kessie, who is now a bedrock of the Rossoneri midfield.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport reports (via MilanNews), the Ivorian has become a midfielder who balances the department and covers immense ground both horizontally and vertically.

The beautiful goal he scored against Parma is evidence of this as he found himself high up the field, scoring his third goals in as many games with a laser of a strike from 25 yards.

Kessie is enjoying constant growth and is increasingly becoming a mainstay of Milan amid their recent resurgence. Not surprisingly, he has played 122 out of 128 games since he has been here, which is 95%.

These are numbers that certify the importance of the former Atalanta man even in his less brilliant periods. His value is worth much more than the €28million spent in summer 2017 to buy him from Atalanta, but it is a matter of little interest to Milan as they have no intention of selling, despite rumours of interest from other clubs including Inter.

Rebic: “Rangnick? I did well in the World Cup in Brazil and he called my agent as the head of football area in Red Bull and told him that he wants me. He came to Florence “Welcome to Red Bull. Choose: You want to play in Salzburg or Leipzig?” I chose Leipzig.”

Rebic: “Leipzig was in the second division but the project Rangnick illustrated to me was big and the facts proved him right. However, I played little there because of the coach had a group of trusted players in whom there was no room for new ones.”

Rebic to Sportweek: “I know what are my qualities. I am physically strong, fast, I play with both feet and I am strong in the mental aspect.”

Rebic: “I was telling Higuain something and Szczesny said “You are 2-0 down don’t act up.” I didn’t respond, normally I would have done because underestimating me is another I don’t like. I responded to Szczesny in another way [the 4-2 goal]. Who attacks me boosts me.” https://t.co/IYCz7v5fmK

Rebic: “Ibra has brought a lot to everyone. But when he says something, many keep quiet. If I don't think like him, I tell him."

Rebic: “Boban? Yes he was decisive [in decision to join Milan]. He also called me after the Juve game. He was happy that I am showing that he did well to sign me.”

Rebic: “My preferred role? Playing with someone like Ibra, who gets the ball with his head and opens spaces for me. Last year we did well at Eintracht because I was attacking the depth, Jovic scored goals and Haller won all the aerial duels.”

Rebic: “Ibrahimovic is needed. He is a leader. Before the Juventus game he told us “Show Juventus players how to play football. "It was his way of motivating. Begovic and Kjaer too are mature players who know how to calm or urge you.”

Ahead of next season, AC Milan are monitoring several young players on the transfer market, ready to start the youth revolution with Ralf Rangnick. Certainly, the latter will be looking to make a few signings in September.

According to Fabrizio Romano in his latest piece for Calciomercato.com, Juventus have set their sights on one of Milan’s targets, namely Lazar Samardzic. The 18-year-old is already a protagonist for Hertha Berlin, showing his qualities on the big stage.

The Bianconeri have already reached out to the player’s agent and are preparing an offer for the attacking midfielder, who hasn’t signed a professional contract yet. However, in January, he made it clear that he doesn’t want to leave the Bundesliga.

Paolo Maldini, Milan’s technical director, met Samardzic in person in an attempt to bring him to the Rossoneri. With his quality, personality and technique, he was (and still is) considered as the perfect signing for the new Milan.

Barcelona are also interested in the player, per the report, and Juve have signed up for the race. The ball, therefore, is in Samardzic’s court to decide between the offers he has received.

🎙️Pioli:"We are reaping the fruits of working together. We believed in our work. I needed time to know my players and things got better after that. We still have few more matches to go and we need to continue with the same quality." https://t.co/QaTCwKuCEl

Stefano Pioli reveals the moment Milan stepped up a level this season after ‘enjoying themselves’ in a 5-1 win over Bologna. ‘We are a team now, we believe in what we’re doing.’

The Rossoneri are unbeaten since the restart and one of the form teams in Serie A, crushing Bologna 5-1 this evening with goals from Alexis Saelemaekers, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ismael Bennacer, Ante Rebic and Davide Calabria.

There was only one scare, with a Takehiro Tomiyasu rocket into the top corner on the stroke of half-time, otherwise it was one-way traffic.

“The team is enjoying itself, that’s what you can tell from the way the players are working in training, during the match and any time we spend time together,” Pioli told DAZN.

“Bologna are a particularly tough team, so this kind of performance means we have belief in what we’re doing. We haven’t achieved our target yet, so we’ve got to stay focused and keep it going.

“We worked well during the lockdown, thanks also to the efforts of the players, but it’s the mentality that makes the difference. We are a team now, we have belief in what we’re doing and that makes everything work better.

“We had this inability before to beat the teams ahead of us in the table, but we’ve now defeated Lazio and Juventus, so that was the signal of stepping up a level.

“I think the game that really gave us the boost was the Coppa Italia semi-final. Playing almost the entire match down to 10 men, but still so organised, determined and focused, it made is realise we could’ve beaten Juventus if it was 11 against 11. That was a very important match in our journey, as it’s when we became fully aware of what we could do.”

That game ended 0-0, so Juve qualified for the Final on away goals thanks to the 1-1 first leg result.

Franck Kessie could’ve had Milan’s sixth goal, but his effort came off the base of the upright.

“Franck is a modern and complete midfielder who does well both attacking and defending. He’s at peak fitness now and has such presence, he’s always ready and generous to motivate his teammates, so has become a real leader in the squad.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic seemed irritated again when substituted on the hour mark.

“He said something, I honestly didn’t understand what. We play every three days, he had an injury, so it’s natural he has to be rested occasionally.”

Inevitably, this kind of form will spark debate among the Milan fans, because the club continues to actively pursue Ralf Rangnick as their coach for next season.

11 - In 2020 calendar year, only Erling #Haaland (13 goals) and Robert #Lewandowski (12) have netted more goals excluding penalties than Ante #Rebic (11) among the top-5 European Leagues. Explosion.

Hakan Calhanoglu for DAZN:

About the match:

I'm happy. We want to continue our work. We played many matches in an almost identical form. It is important to play as a team.

About the team:

It's not easy to play every 2 days. The legs are tired, but we showed our heart on the pitch. Bologna often plays 1v1 and it's never easy to play with them. We played high pressure and we managed to win.

About Pioli:

He influenced me a lot and allowed me to play the way I wanted. He always talks to me, even off the pitch. He helps me a lot and I am happy. I also play for him. Pioli is a very important person not only for me but also for the entire team. We are glad to have such a coach.

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has heaped praise upon his team for their fantastic run since the resumption of Serie A.

The Rossoneri travel to the MAPEI Stadium on Tuesday night to battle a resurgent Sassuolo side who have won four of their last six games and have begun a charge towards the Europa League spots.

Milan though have of course been in fantastic form themselves, winning six out of eight in the league since the resumption including their most recent victory being a 5-1 win over Bologna at San Siro on Saturday night.

There were five different scorers on the night as Alexis Saelemaekers, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ismael Bennacer, Ante Rebic and Davide Calabria all netted – a testament to how a team effort has contributed to the Diavolo’s recent climb.

Pioli spoke to reporters before the trip to Emilia Romagna, and his words were transcribed by MilanNews.

He began by discussing whether the team have pressed the reset button since the league restarted, or if it is down to individuals doing so.

“In my opinion both things. We have got to know each other more and more, even the team-mates among them. We are more recognisable on the field and it becomes easier to find situations that give us advantages. It is equally true that the performance of the individual has grown and this has dragged the group,” he said.

On tomorrow’s game with a view to Europe: “They have an offensive department to hold in high regard and a team to face with great respect.”

On the tough schedule: “There have been close games and all very difficult, as will the next two games against Sassuolo and Atalanta. It is clear that the match with Bologna, which we closed early enough, allowed us to recover some players.

“Mentally we are in a positive moment and this helps to recover faster between one game and the next. Yesterday the team seemed to me physically well after the game.

“There is more confidence, we know how to overcome the difficult moments of the matches because we have more awareness. We have collective qualities and, above all, individual qualities that allow us to overcome the difficulties.”

Pioli was asked if it is a shame that the season ends when it does, or if the gasoline will be running out come August 2nd.

“I care that it lasts until August 2nd. We are running fast, collecting the points we made was difficult to predict. The tank is still set well, we are not in reserve. The next two are those in which we will have to prove we are a great team, then we will have a little more time to recover in view of the next races.

“I am showing the ranking from the beginning of January onwards. We are fourth in the standings looking at this period and we will probably be third tonight. It is a long term and it is a signal that the team is also giving for the future. Many players are proving to be up to such an important club and such a prestigious jersey.”

On the growth of Calhanoglu: “It was the growth that I expected from Hakan, because he has technical, physical and mental characteristics. He has everything to become a top player, he can still grow and become a reference player for this team.”

On Bennacer: “He is a complete midfielder who knows how to do both phases of the game well. He is one of the players who has made the most of the change of formation. This is the role in which he can make the most of his characteristics.

“We must try to be dangerous in the offensive phase with as many players as possible,” he added.

“Ibra’s presence on the pitch and the position gives us many solutions, because he is good at getting out of the area and his team-mates are good at exploiting these spaces.

“The numbers are excellent, it is useless to deny it. Tomorrow, however, we will have to be good in the game. We have to get as many points as possible until August 2nd.”

Ibrahimovic was removed from the action in the second half against Bologna having provided two assists for his team-mates, but he was seen shouting at Pioli on the sidelines as he went to take up a position on the bench.

On Ibrahimovic’s sub and how he is: “He was angry because he wanted to play the whole game and score goals. Ibra’s last two performances were of a very high level, he was a point of reference for his team-mates. The team needs Ibra from start, so he must be fine.”

If it is a personal satisfaction to have imprived many players: “The greatest satisfaction for a manager is when a player is found ready. In this period, in which you have the possibility of having five changes, it is important to have players ready and who give everything to the team even when entering the race in progress.”

On what the team will inherit next season: “The mentality, the desire to play the matches, the desire to try to be masters of the matches and the awareness of one’s qualities.”

There will be an important milestone for Donnarumma as he is set to reach 200 appearances for Milan against the team where it all started.

“It is an important goal, Gigio must have ambition and continue to work as he is doing and, if possible even more. He has the potential to become the strongest in the world, he has all the technical and moral qualities to be truly a great person.”

OFFICIAL STATEMENT: SUSO

The Spanish footballer joins Sevilla F.C. on a permanent deal

AC Milan announces that the player Jesús Joaquín Fernández Sáenz de la Torre, "Suso", has joined Sevilla F.C. on a permanent deal. The Club wishes him all the best in his future endeavours

Roberto De Zerbi hopes Sassuolo learn the lesson of ‘taking nothing for granted’ as they prepare to host Milan in Serie A tomorrow.
Sassuolo have lost just once since the season restarted but were held for the second game running at the weekend, drawing 1-1 with Parma despite dominating for spells.
“Nothing can be taken for granted. That’s the lesson we need to learn,” De Zerbi said at a press conference.

“I don’t know if it’ll act as a lesson because every game is different. In a match like the one against Cagliari, there’s a lot of rage if you don’t come away with all three points, but football is also like this.
“We’re on a good run, we’ve picked up from where we left off before lockdown. In these last four games, we have to take maximum points.”
The Neroverdi face a Milan side in similarly-hot form and with ambitions of Europa League qualification too.
“They have several top individuals and are doing well. We have to be absolutely wary of Pioli, who’s done an amazing job.
“We’ve scored lots of goals at Inter, Juve and Lazio and we can cause anyone problems.
“We’ll still need to rotate. Some who played at Cagliari have played for 90 minutes in 3-4 games on the trot.
“We can still qualify for Europe. It’s not easy and there are still 12 points up for grabs, but even finishing eighth would be a good result, given the teams who are near us.”
